Default How to get a foothold in in the east?

I'm past the marian reforms and want to expand my territory to the east out of italy but those damn boii dont let me get a foothold. I tried capturing and holding illyria but got some severe handling there. Now with the help of three legions I ve managed to capture Salonae but have my work cut out in holding it. I really need some help regarding this situation.would appreciate some expert advice.

Try capture all the regions to the danuba river and build forts on the bridges. Use assasins and spy to destroy important buildings (recruit barracks, temples, trade buildings)kill the governer.. in ther citys. So that they need to rebuild and cant make lots of armys. And use more legions if economy can support that.

I did build some forts but those Boii own everything till the black sea. The only reason I ve managed to retain Salonae so far is bcuz thier main armies are fighting the greeks in the south.

do they own all of macadonia to?ill say take them on more fronts than 1,and take all undefended citys as quick as possible.iff they lose citys they lose income, take out their capital where the treasury is.get alliance with greeks and help them out,so that you fight battles with greek ally against boii.
on my pergamon campaign i first had a war with macadonia, when they had 2 citys left i used forced diplomacy to become protector of them, and giving them 2 settlements as goodwill, now at war with dacia and macadonia is helping me out(not that i need them, but are a good buffer against sarmatia)they siege city, i siege city, dacia went from big to small in 15 turns, maybe you can try something like that with your roman campaign.good luck

Tried that strategy. I captured all their settlement till Pann_inf in the north and Moesia till east (laying wste to each one as well), even killed thier national leader before two of their armies invaded Italia. As for the Greeks Those people first ask for alliance and then always stab me in the back once their troubles are over. "Never trust the Greeks".Still I'll give it a go and see what happens.

My suggestion is to strike for the heart: hit them north of the Pyrenees.
