here's my vision of carthage
it's simple as hell, divide in two segments: Africa(and all the islands exept the balearics) and iberia
iberia was a powerhorse on its own and didnt need much from carthage to be sustained (historically speaking wink.gif for they do need them in th game, reinforcements that is)
first of all they did so rareley use their citizens to fight one would only use them as garrison (certainly do so and when in dire need) however they did equip the mercenaries with phalanxes so i use them in stead(unless i can get pezoi) secondly of the carthaginians there is no record at all of them using towered elephants either (so never build them due to inexistance) sacred band numbers are neglectible and were thus more a ceremonial band, they were the only military allowed in the city(carthago) and the only one not open to mercenaries(since there so pretty i use them to garrison carthago)
african army
1 general (they form the sacred band)
3 numidian horse
2 libyan horse
2 african elephants (no towers!!!)
5 pezoi (when unavailable use citizens for thei use sarissa too)/5 liby phoenicean hoplites
1 balearic slingers
this was filled up with usually cannon fodder (i'd use berbers or spanjards or mercs)
to be clear they couldnt get gauls from there you'd have to transport them from iberia
iberian army
1 general
2 numidian horse (the carthaginians loved them, with reason)
3 iberian horse>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>can be Gauls too
1 african elephants
3 liby phoenicean hoplites/ phalangites
3 scuttari falcata
3 scuttari spearmen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>can be Gauls too
3 scuttari falcata (skirmish)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>can be Gauls too
1 balearics
just remember they formed there army with wat was at hand, not becouse they followed a particular strategy, that was determined by what was at hand not otherwise like the romans or greeks
