    Default Faction Settings

Playing a Bactrian campaign. Using MC's 4 YPT mod.
Its about 250 BC and Macedon are all the way in Gaul and Germany.
Its one thing to have them hoof the Greeks out of Greece and take chunks of Thrace and Illyria.
But this borders on the absurd. They are one province away from the english channel.

Whats a good setting that will let Macedon expand, but at a much reduced rate?
Certainly, I would eventually like to take on a strong Macedon as oppossed to the Greeks or Thracians.
But having four or five factions get wiped out before I even get to Media seems OTT.

I have no idea what the following settings entail.
If anyone could enlighten me, I would appreciate it.

    1) Fortified Caesar(Rome)
    2) Craftsman Caesar
    3) Bureaucrat Napoleon
    4) Fortified Napoleon
    5) Fortified Smith(Macedon)
    6) Religeous Smith
    7) Trader Stalin
    8) Religeous Stalin
    9) Sailor Mao
    10) Fortified Mao
    11) Religeous Henry
    12) Bureaucrat Henry
    13) Comfortable Genghis

Perhaps Sailor Napoleon for Macedon? Antigonus Gonatus did concentrate on his navy.
But with land bridges, maybe thats not such a good idea.
Fortified Caesar? The Romans use that setting, and seem to expand at a far more reasonable rate.
They have the major part of Italy at this time. Northern Italy is still held by the Gauls.
Macedon apparently decided it would make more sense to by-pass this and head off to Germany.

Its not just to do with AI personalities, i find Macedon is very overpowered, if you 'tune' them down slightly (by making their units slightly weaker, or more expensive) they can't expand so rapidly.

    There is a guide
    AI personalities

    Hope this helps

Thanks to ARCHER29 for the amazing banners!! (I need to work out how to make it actually show the slideshow)

In EB they add Pyrrhus as his own faction and that supposedly does'nt have Macedon blitz.
I don't know anything else if I think of anything I will post here.

In my mod which I've added Epirus, the Makedonians still blitz.. :tooth: Anyway, my latest testing by adding some scripting cheat might have manage to curb that..

    Thanks for the link LM.
That at least answers my questions on what they do. Or are suppossed to.
I think Pyrrhus would be a good idea. But I like PE too much.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I might give that a shot.

Most of my campaigns I am usually able to curb Macedon expansion. Either as Rome or as the Seleucids.
Consequently they didn't seem to be as overpowering as some say they are.
Saying that, I got into a gruelling war with Macedon in one Seleucid campaign.
I was under the cosh for about three or four game years with MC's 4 YPT mod.
But if I am not near them, it seems they will take over anything near them. And then move on.
Oddly, I have never seen them head into Asia Minor. Unless it was to fight me.

I don't mind Macedon ruling the roost in Greece and the surrounding areas. What I don't like is that they have done so in such a short time. They are going after the Germans and Gauls right now. By the time I get to Antioch as the Bactrians, the whole map will be Macedon it seems like.

I just read the article. It won't make much difference re curbing Macedonian expansion.
At least I don't think it will.

If you know basic editting you could give Greece a ***load of money in the descr_strat file in world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign. That might help. Sorry about my
lack of ideas. I want to stay with PE too.

Actually, you have come up with two ideas I would not have thought about.
I think I will give the Greeks a ton of cash.
    Thrace and Illyria too.

Great. If you want to test your results without playing visit this thread.http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23398
If you do please pm me or post in this thread about it. I would test but I'm busy on the
    AE team.

They do?That sucks. We need to figure out a way to nerf them without killing them. Any ideas?

The problem with nerfing Macedon is that the Greeks will then turn around and do the exact same thing that we nerfed Macedon for. I think the biggest problem is that Macedon (and anyone who owns large amounts of Greece) will gain a huge amount of money in a very small amount of time, so we somehow have to tone that down. My idea is to remove all but the most important ports on the coastal cities; keep a port for Thessalonica, Athens, Corinth and Apollonia and that should devalue Greece by quite a bit. Toning down the farming value may also have a similar effect on the income of these areas.

In fact, the same method could probably be used in the rest of the Mediterranean, because of the disproportionately high income factions gain from naval trade.

Edit: just tested it out. Taking away most of Macedon's ports reduced its income by 2000 denarii at the start, which is a fair amount but they are still earning a good 5.5k per turn without touching any tax buttons. Now to see if any more money can be cut from them...

Edit2: vastly reducing the base farming level (from 6-7 to 1) further reduced Macedon's initial income by about 3000. They're still making far more money than what I'd like, so it's time to hit those tax values. Somehow, probably through building effects or something...

yeah, that was my thoughts as well, greece and italy are very overpowered and once rome controls italy plus sicily or greece/macedon or even epirus take greece, its a massive war, I have never seen illyria last longer than 260 BC

Actually in my current campaign,as Rome, Illyria has made Thrace it's protectorate, kept Macedon in check, and kept the Greeks from making any moves into their territory. Now they're expanding into Germany. Of course I used a cheat to take 80000 from Macedon in the beginning.
