It would certaintly be possible at the start of the game. But once the years go bye and those characters die, I don't think it would be effiecient.

Who dares wins
Yeah, I guess my Julius, Antiochus, or Pericles will have to go under a different name![]()

"To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true" ~ Aristotle
It would be ok with start positions but then the games makes it own decisions
Veritas Temporis Filia
It has been stated that famous characters will be in the game. Not sure if Julius Caesar will be born if someone wipes out the Julian family. We'll just have to wait and see, but rest assure that it has been confirmed that famous characters will be implemented in one way or another.
since the lifespans are real, it wouldnt make much of a difference. i guess they could just add the names of the famous people. obviously they have scipio and varus. so maybe.

Maybe off topic, but in old Medieval: Total War you could get Joan d´ Arc as commander if you recruited (royal bodyguards/ Feudal Knights or Heavy Knights) at the same turn (date) Joan d´ Arc raised the french flag IRL!
The same goes to the other historical great generals when recruited in the same year in right type of troop!
"See that they are well supplied with beverages, with their drink avidity satisfied by giving them as much beverages they want. Then they will easily get defeated by their lust of yeast as by roman arms" Tacitus, Germania 23
I remember getting Napoleon in my french campaign on ETW, even included his portrait. I support this, as long as there is no scripted event surrounding these characters.
Agron and Nasir.

The ones that held the appropriate positions at the start of the game in 270 B.C. or whenever it starts. Antigonus II Gonatus ruling Macedon and such.
None after that. Maybe there will be a general of the Caesar stirps of the Julia gens who is named Gaius in the 1st century B.C. Maybe there won't be, and the great Julian general (if there is one) will be named Publius Julius Libo. Maybe there will be a Ptolemaic queen named Cleopatra. Maybe she'll be named Arsinoe. Or maybe it'll be another male king Ptolemy.
I wouldn't want scripted historical characters popping up. If Egypt has reduced Carthaginian territory to some petty collection of Iberian towns, I don't want Cato the Elder ending every senatorial speech with "Carthage must be destroyed." Maybe senatorial factions might advocate an anti-Egyptian stance instead -- a senatorial faction which might be lead by some non-historical figure, rather than morphing Cato into an anti-Egyptian.
