Default Can a fleet get out of a blockaded seaport?

Many times I've noticed in my play through of RS 2.5 that even though I blockade a seaport the naval fleet in that port still manages to get out somehow. Is that supposed to happen ?

They can just get out when they beat the other ships, afaik.

It would take two turns. One turn they get out of the actual port but cannot move anymore because of the red squares around your navy. The next turn they can move from the red and be free.

I am pretty sure that happens in Vanilla too. I haven't noticed it yet in my game but I am in the dead sea I think and there is just one Selecuid port on it that I have blockaded and I haven't made it to the Mediterranean yet. I will let you know if that happens to me

Yes it does happen with vanilla and with all RTW "engine".
Brusilov didnt new that "trick",i will use it as i think that is one of those bugs that are not valid not to use it as any fleet could invade the port to attack other fleets ,thanks.

So basically what you are saying is that an enemy fleet can still get out even though the port is blockaded. As far as I remember they could only get out by beating the blockading navy. What's the point of blockading the port then if they can still get out and get to move about at will )

Well, as soon as an enemy ship appears in the port - select one of your ships in the stack (you need at least two ships in the stack to do this) then use that ship to attack the enemy fleet - your numbers should be strong enough to destroy that fleet. Note: all ships in the fleet will attack - not just the selected ship.

The downside of this may be that the second ship gets a promotion and the captain becomes an admiral and you can't have two admirals in a stack. Just reinforce the different fleets.

Interesting - I've always highlighted all the ships in the fleet before attacking a fleet in a port and never had that issue.

I was under the impression that you could not attack the fleet inside the port if you selected the whole stack....... When someone told me this trick I was quite happy!

Indeed it was only in my original background reading of RSII that I discovered one could do it at all! But yes, whilst you can't attack by selecting the fleet on the map, you can by highlighting all the ships in the unit box. I kind of suspect this is not originally intentional, but it does keep the AI fleets under control a bit.

    Blame CA. It's hardcoded.
