Clan not respected?

Hello all!

Im sure this has been covered before, but if not, here goes...

So ive got a good game going as the Mori and am steamrolling my way to Kyoto (on Hard). Problem is, nobody wants to be my friend. Even offering hostages, getting married with other clans, and offering up your own brides gets me nowhere.

(Off topic, whats with "We might be able to reach an agreement"? They always say no)

Anyway, I look at whats causing all the problems, and apart from the obvious (WAR!), its "Clan is not respected". My Daimyos honor is very high (4), and I havent broken any alliances or trade agreements. Could anyone explain this to me?

Check your Daimyo's trait. I think Mori and Oda, or was it Tokugawa, initial Daimyo has a penalty to Diplomatic Relations.

Also I have noticed that declare war while Trade Agreement in effect only cause Diplomatic penalty to your trade partners, no penalty to other rulers, except when you break the Trade Agreement and declare war before the waiting period is over. And there was no Honor penalty in my Shogun plays.

Indeed , Mori have this penalty from the start which is permanent if i remember well (i think it's -20) .

Another way to have this "clan not respected" penalty is if you refuse to pay the tribute to the emperor , it's a random event that happens at some point , when you have enough treasury , but this one will decrease overtime (i think it's -50 , then it decreases )
