Games to play, movies to watch to get your fix untill RTW2 is out?

I'd gues with the release day announced everyone is getting pretty eager about playing the game. I know I am now that it seems to be getting closer than expected.

So what to do untill the game is out?

Playing Rome 1 total war is of course the obvious answer, but what else?

Personly I reinstalled titan quest + expansion and am playing that in recent days. Not a truly great game, but I really do love the way it looks. Beautifull regions, and beautifull equipment designs.
Aside from that also Gladius, an old game but still a great game featuring gladiatoral combat.

As for movies, I recently watched the original 300 which was pretty nice and still have Cleopatra, Spartacus, Ben Hur, Troy, Gladiator, Alexander and yes the new 300 as well to watch untill the game is out.

So what related games/movies are you all playing/seeing to get into it?

I'm gonna play medieval II a lot, cause it's the the only game I can play and still enjoy cause i'm tired of Rome 1.

When it comes to games i will probably be playing total war a lot (big shocker i know :O), some Wargame Airland Battle, and a few others. When it comes to movies, well what other movie would get you in a better mood to slaughter barbarians/gauls/carthaginians/Romans than Jurassic Park ???

Well I dont think I could afford to adventure and meet people for three months straight, and I eventually would need to return home to sleep and just rest. With that said, I will do some adventuring and meeting, but most of my time will be spent working and with the woman. In between all of that I will probably play Rome: Total War, Kerbal Space Program, and Mirrors Edge (Been so damn long it deserves a playthrough). Non-videogame stuff... probably horseback riding and working on getting my car on the road again.

Playing chess games on ICC. Reading about Carthago, Rome, the celts, Athens, Sparta on my ereader.

And probably playing some TW games but im not sure which. Rome, Napoleon or Shogun 2. I really like the graphics of Shogun 2 but each faction has like almost the same units. Napoleon doesnt have melee and Rome 1 is getting a bit old and is easyer than later TW games. I was playing shogun 2 yesterday and was quite happy to see my enemy walking towards me but backing off and deploying on a forested hill. Which made me think about whether i should attack and take a fair amount of losses or not. That was quite intelligent and almost made me think i was playing against an human opponent. So im not sure which yet.

Also i might train some to improve my time on the 1/2 marathon. I wont beat my fastest time but i would like to run 3200 meter on a coopertest or something before i install rome 2 and see my stamina drop a lot.

Just played Children of the Nile from Tilted Mill (2004). In my humble opinion there is no better city-building game in terms of gameplay. Roma Surrectum II (Rome I - Total War) seems to be a good choice too. I am nearly the point where the grand second rebellion will start.

Been reading as much Adrian Goldsworthy as I can. His books "The Fall of Carthage" and "Caesar" mostly. And "The Complete Roman Army". And a touch of the Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings II.

Yeah this is a great book. I would like to read the ceasar book by Goldsworthy but i think ill read a book about the war of Athens and Sparta by J.E. Lendon first. since im all excited about the greek dlc pack.

Yeah I need to brush up on my Greek warfare too, the Caesar book is a bit of a hefty read, it does cover his entire life, but well worth it

I personally am not a fan of Goldsworthy, as he seems to just be a regurgitation machine rather than offering any original insights or any enthralling language. If you want a book on Caesar's time, Tom Holland's Rubicon is vastly superior.

Anyway, I'm currently watching Cleopatra​, since I haven't ever seen it in any case.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out if I have time, I'm re-reading "The Fall of Carthage" now, and I'm inclined to agree with you.

If you want a general overview of Rome and Carthage at the time of the Punic Wars its great. But not too in-depth.

Can still do sleeping, working, going outside and everything in between, just fun to get into the spirit of a big release like this by busying yourself with related stuff in the meanwhile.

Read Conn's series on Rome. It's a bit basic but still fun.
Read about Cleopatra.
Trying to find more material on Spartacus.
Stuff like that.

Will not be going out and having adventures though. Too rough for my gentile hands and feet.
