I for some odd reason remember hearing that somewhere diplomacy will be improved, and that isn't sarcasm! Yeah, I agree entirely. Rome and other nations had long-standing allies throughout it's history and it would be awesome to play through that. It would be awesome that if a civil war was triggered with a certain faction, the allies you had as the main unified nation would pick and choose who they liked more and would support and maintain an alliance with that faction. That's wishful thinking but it'd be awesome.

Yes, diplomacy in RTW was terrible. Any AI improvement will be very welcomed I am sure. I too hope I can have actual alliances in R2TW. Also, I hope there is an option to give allies soldiers or ask for some that you would completely own and pay for upkeep, etc.
Diplomacy has been terrible for a long time. It looked like it was getting better in NTW, then in Shogun 2 it was bad again. Really hope they improve the diplomacy so we have the option to share technology, give regions, arrange marriage, etc. I also hope that the AI is a lot less backstabby if you put a lot of effort into your relationship with them.. and that they actually DO something if they are your ally! I've never been helped by an ally in a TW game, militarily or financially.
"You hurt me long ago; my wounds bled for years. Now you are back, but I am not the same."
This. If you play TWS2 with DarthMod, the AI is great, diplomacy works well, allies have helped me in my wars many, many times, in some cases marching armies a long way through my lands to fight my enemies. Can't really remember what the AI was like in vanilla but at the very least it could be modded to be good. It's a shame about RD, though. The only way I can see it going backwards from Shogun 2 is if the system is overhauled.
Actually, I'm a little worried about diplomacy being too complicated. If they can't make an AI that can cope with a more complex diplomatic system, I'd much rather have a simpler one like in S2. If they can, great.
