    Default Problems with Windows 8

Hi, I have recently got a new computer with windows 8 installed. I read somewhere that there was a problem with installing games into the program 86 file so when I came to install M2TW I created a new folder for it and installed it in that. Yesterday everything worked fine and I played the game as usual. Today, however when I went to play the game I got a message saying "This application is not compatible with the installed operating system.
Please upgrade to Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or better." Nothing I try will now work. I have tried all the different compatibility modes but still get the same message. Why would it work one day, but not the next. How can I get it to work all the time?

I had the same problem (exact message, I have Windows 8, too) for a different game, and I spent hours of time trying to figure out the answer. . . only to restart my computer and have the problem resolved, and the game worked like normal. Try restarting.
    I can't think of anything.

    !. Log in as Administrator.
    2. Disable the UAC.
    3. Take ownership of C: drive.
    4. And you're right, install anyplace besides Program Files (x86) Mine is in Games folder.

The only way to beat Win 8 at its own game.

External? USB2 or better? It may work if you format it NTFS. No promises, though. I've had mine on a spare D: drive off and on over the years.

C:\Games folder worked for me for three years on Win 7 64bit before I had to reformat my harddrive. Reformat was not the game's fault.

I had the exact same problem, too. Then I did all the things above and it started working again! Thanks, irishron!

I think moving it out of the Program Files (x86) folder was the big step.
