Default This is what you get for pre-ordering

So maybe this is slightly offtopic but I cannot stress this enough. Publishers are going crazy with DLC and pre-orders. This MUST stop.

For example: Metro 2033 Last Light is now available for pre-order and what you get is:
    -Special Gun
    -Some ingame currency (bullets)
    -Ingame comic

    -RANGER MODE (VERY HARD MODE)

Now this is some crap right there. If you don't know. Ranger Mode was already in the original Metro 2033. On the site it says Ranger Mode is 'the way the game is meant to be played'.

So you have to pre-order the game in order to get a GAME MODE that is PART OF THE MAIN GAME otherwise you are screwed. OR you have to pay 5 bucks afterwards if you didn't pre-order the game in the first game. This is the world upside down. It is crazy.

All credit to AngryJoe for bringing up this issue right here, I strongly recommand you watch this video:

Now, to get back to Rome 2. We know nothing about the campaign mode at all, so why are you pre-ordering? You don';t know what you are paying for.
Second, all total wars so far have been riddled with bugs on release. Why are you paying for a semi beta game that will be fixed a few weeks/months later on?

Yea thats right, pre-order bonus. You get some extra factions.. Don't you see what is going on here? We, the gamers, are getting ****ed by the publishers for wanting to buy their game. they want us to give them money before they have done anything. This must stop. We must say no to the pre-orders or soon we will be forced to pre-order the game in order to be able to use basic game features (which is already happening on metro last light!

Take a deep breath and relax. Most of us know we're taking a risk preordering. I myself am kind of an impulse buyer when it comes to TW games. That and I haven't bought a PC game in almost two years. No one hear has the right to tell me how to spend my money or to judge me for what I buy.

That said I think CA/SEGA have come a long way since they first started offering DLC for TW. We've slowly been given more bang for our buck, in my opinion. I've had just about enough with EA and their tactics. CA/SEGA is much better with their DLC.

I'm preordering because I have loved every Total war game I've ever played (Rome 1 being the first), getting any pre order additions is a bonus for me, you guys need to calm down telling everyone to not pre order.

I agree with you 100%. I feel most of us who are pre-ordering is because we are long time fans of the games. We dont care if they make a few extra bucks on us, thats a good thing. If the company is making money then they"ll stay in buisness and keep bringing us new total war games. I hope their around 50 years from now working on a Cold total war, where the game is based on the cold war. And even then they probably will make Cuba and Turkey preorder DLC, and people will still be like "I cant beleive their making me preorder to get base game factions, this is stupid, let me make a couple of threads on this via my mind internet uplink while I'm waiting in line for a mcdouble."

You know pal, that's exactly why EA is still around... cos some people don't mind paying a few extra(ever increasing) bucks year after year...

They won't make a few extra bucks on us. If what I read in these forums is correct, some sites apparently are offering it for less than the Steam price right now, 3.5 months early. If you want CA/SEGA to get some extra money, send it to directly to Mr. Satomi. He'll be grateful you did.

The thing is most people don't give a damn about stuff like this. For every "hardcore" (and in this case hardcore means person who reads about the game on forums/on the internet and really likes the games, like we on twc) player who doesn't buy a game because of pre-order deals, 10 or maybe even 50 casuals will buy it. Most people (and most means "the majority of people who buy games) don't even know what a publisher is, or why pre-orders are bad. Hell, many people don't know/care about which developer it is. They just see "cool, i pre-order and get something extr...OH MAN Sparta! I think those were the guys in 300!! that's so cool!"

Just wait for the boxed one and you will be fine.

Pre-order DLC doesnt really bother me. If I like a game I usually buy it on launch anyway. I can understand why people are annoyed though.
The price point of Rome II on launch for the UK is more alarming than pre-order dlc imo. Esp if they attempt to make it standard in the future.

Watch this, lol. I learned that lesson the hard way (after many games bought), not gonna pre-order RII either.

I don't think it's fair to compare Rome II with Metro LL though. I mean, having a fkin DIFFICULTY as pre-order? Who came up with that "brilliant" idea? Metro REVOLVES around it's immersion and they cut out something that directly adds to what your game is essentially all about? Sure, 3 factions is quite "scummy" aswell but this is like not being able to have 40 unit battles unless you pre-order.

Sometimes you really wonder how executives get their jobs..

Oh you just wait a few more games in the future, this is only the beggining, and if the ammount of people that pre-order will increase, you'll end up in Metro LL's situation

I will say this and once only : If it turns out that the Greek Culture Pack consists of three substantive factions and it looks like they are fairly substantive on paper, then...

it probably would make sense to pre-order at the last possible moment... if they show us a lot of the game, let us play a campaign and battle demo, have Jack do detailed walkthroughs like in Shogun 2 etc.

But please, first, let's make them work hard for the sale before we throw money at them, OK?

    that is all

Can I ask where the **** you people are getting this idea that pre-ordering makes you pay an extra five dollars for the game from? Because the few times I've pre-ordered games it was always for the same price as getting it off the shelf.

You guys are losing your minds for no reason. I saw several websites where you can pre-order the game for 28 euros (depending on location I guess), which means you'll also get the Greek culture pack for free. I'm not saying you're stupid if you don't pre-order (I know I won't until I get some confirmation on legitimacy of these sites and some more information about the game), but I will say that's the cheapest I've seen a new game by a major studio in ten years. Sure, the steam version costs twice as much, which is why you should look around a bit before buying, and certainly before telling other people they are idiots.

Couldn't have said it better myself...people fail to see that CA is lesser evil than some other companies like Bioware or EA or Bugthesda IMO......just wait for reviews, wait for more information, draw your conclusion,if you like it preorder if you don't then wait for discount or don't buy it at all....
S I M P L E ....and also don't forget that in RTW there was only greek states as faction and now you've got 3 of them and each is fully developed and more fleshed and much more than just couple of special units and banner

All i am doing with pre-ordering, is reserving a copy and signing a very loose pledge to give them money on the release date.
Yep. I actually did pre-order which I've only done for 3 other games (HoI3, VickyII, and Witcher2) but honestly while I hope most games don't release at $60 next year it is likely within 3-4 years it happens. However with the huge amount of competition online between various electronic distributors patient consumers can always get a better price. No one is forcing to buy at $60 even if that was the ONLY price at release (it is not)- CA games are undervalued probably to the dedicated fans and fair prices to most people while overpriced to a few.

It's not like some consumer electronic device which day of launch goes on Ebay for 1,000s when retail is only $600. If we ever see the day Sega releases a game at $300 and drops the price by $10 every week all the complainers will be joined by alot more people but I bet some publisher would love to do that but for obvious pirating reasons doesn't.

Probably Sega hasn't gotten alot of money from many people on these forums, personally I was given Shogun and RTW by a friend, bought MTW2 myself, got ETW/NTW bundled with a video card and same thing for Shogun 2. So Rome 2 would be only the 2nd time I've paid anything near full price for a TW yet aside from HoM&M, AoE and HoI series probably has given me the most hours of playtime of any game series. Of course due to Ubisoft crap I've boycotted HoM&M since 4 despite being curious about the newer games while HoI due to the immense time it takes to complete a single campaign I rarely play anymore. That leaves some FPS, AoE, CoH, Witcher, Dragon Age, and TW as the only games I play much anymore with FPS and TW being the majority despite playing mostly SP in TW.

So if you are compelled somehow to pay $60 for Rome 2 despite cheaper prices being available PREORDER or can't wait 2-3 months for predictable price drops/sales then you have no one to blame but yourself. If CA really bungles Rome 2 somehow or does some dodgy crap like Ubisoft then boycott them but complaining about the price is about the stupidest thing you can do.

Complain about sandals or shade of teeth or poor AI or number of factions since at least those are issues that might be changed. Complaining about being forced to pay for a game is ridiculous.
