Will there be historical named legions for Rome and their historical AOR, or there will be just roman legion cohort to recruit and that's it?
Will there be historical named legions for Rome and their historical AOR, or there will be just roman legion cohort to recruit and that's it?
Probably just the regular Roman legionary.
I don't think there will be historical named legions...
Probably we will get Region named legions *we have 53 Regions, so we can assume a regional legion per region.*
I would love to be able to name legions...
I will name my legion that suffers the most loses and gets the most phyrric victories... Hell's Legion!
I wouldn't like to have historical names for legions as I don't want to simulate history. Would rather make my own. That said, I really miss how units in NTW were automatically named and we could give them our own names if we wanted to. I hope that comes back.
"You hurt me long ago; my wounds bled for years. Now you are back, but I am not the same."
Anyway one day or another a mod will implement this if it's not on vanilla.(And if we can really mod Rome II)
i hope they are in
Sure they'll be named.
Roman Army: "Legion of Melee , Consul!"
Greek Army: "Phalanx Infantry, Strategos!"
Eastern: "Missile Cavarly reporting, my King!"
Iceni: "Blue-Belly Bedlam Berserkers here, Lad"
I assume the legions will get named like they did historically. I just don't think that certain legions will get a special trait or whatever because they are named the same as a legion in history. YOU are the one who is creating the history in this game.
You dont get me guys, I want to know if legion recruited from Rome will be named Legio I Italica and so on,...
Presumably they will be numbered at least. Going by what they've said about legions having identities and being able to re-raise a legion that has been lost. I don't see how legions would be abe to have histories and identities if they don't have names.
I think they will & all the better for it.
I thought that was a very cool feature of the RS mod
The option to give your own choice of name would be good too.

In faecorum semper, solum profundum variat.
You don't recruit legions, you recruit manipules, or cohorts or whatever. A legion is more like the full stack, and my understanding is that you will be able to name them yourselves.
Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.
Why the **** should there be several dozen different units that are exactly the same except in name, AoR and maybe appearance instead of a generic "legionary" unit available everywhere and having players organize and name their own legions according to what suits their individual playstyle?
I remember an interview with James Russel back when Rome had just been announced, he was talking about how we will now have "Legions" not armies and I specifically remember him saying "we now want the player to go, oh, I need to move the 10th legion up to reinforce my others".
I know it's clutching at straws but we can hope they've implemented some kind of naming system.

I hope you can rename them yourselves. I'd be annoyed if a legion was named Gallia when it was recruited in Syria just because appropriate names have already been used.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
There will be 57 provinces in Rome II and my guess the army/legion will be by default name after the provinces they were raised. I just hope that we will be able to change the name in-game.
For example the first legion/army raised in Italy will be name Legio I Italica, the second Legio II Italica and so on. This can only be seen on the army/legion panel and not on the unit card itself. IIRC someone from CA said that each army/legion will have their own standard (hopefully we can select) and their own history/traits (suggesting there's a separate panel for armies).
