Yes, I'm failing to see a downside - if you do not want many playable factions you can just not preorder the game? Or, assuming it is a code that comes with it not apply the code?
Oh hell yes! The more the merrier!
Seriously ... all should be playable man all the 183
No, no, no.
I want actual factions not just copy pastes with different names of units and slightly different skins. I expect a faction to be just that a faction, a unique set of victory goals and way of playing.
Like I said since the beginning, I would rather have 9 solid completely different factions than 90 copy and paste ones. I don't care if I'm the thracians, dacians, or romans if they all feel the same when I play.
That being said, I think there will be a total of 20 playable factions though there will be 2 more $5-$9 "Culture Packs" and one more 'free' clan. Then there will be a rise of rome expansion.

Probably i will not do a campaign with every faction, but i like so many factions becouse this give me more flavour to my enemies, and more option for the custom battles.
I don't think we have enough - there are no Iberian representative, no Thracians or their cousins the Dacians and Getae.
I myself think these 12 playable factions are enough .
You sir are entitled to your opinion. Although, I think yo'll find yourself in the very small minority here with that opinion.
There's no good reason for limiting the roster to only 12, and I think the players should have the choice to play any of the factions existing in the campaign. At the very least, I hope to have every major culture playable. We still need playable factions from Iberia, Numidia, Steppe lands, Arabia; I'd even like to see playable factions in Scandinavia and north west africa (Berber tribes bordering Carthage).
I laughed and thought the same thing when I saw this thread. It's called the human condition. People will never ever be happy with anything, because as soon as you get what you desire, you always find fault and want more.2 weeks ago everyone was ******** there wasn't enough playable factions. Now people are wondering if there are too many. I love this forum.
It's called "Replayability".Well he does have a point. I can`t decide which faction i want to play first. I can`t pick one of them which i wont want to start to play a campaign with.

Sorry bro .
After reading peoples' comments I've been convinced that I was wrong . If every single playable faction going to have totally unique buildings , unit roster , culture and etc not like what I saw in Rome 1 and Shogun 2 then it would be cool and I have no problem to say that I as wrong even tough I'm going to be judged and insulted .
i myself think not, we are missing alot of culture and important factions like said above, Iberians,Thracia or Dacia,Seleucids and much more, it would be a shame and a great opportunity of cashing in for CA to not include more factions, specially if they are gona be payed DLC.
P.S as YIO said the more the merrier![]()
Ideally, all 117 factions would be playable. As Mallex said, the more, the merrier.

As for yer question. I think 12 is a good starting number. I would expect a couple more culture/faction packs to increase the number to around 20 as well. Iberian Culture Pack and Eastern Culture Pack are tops on my list for those.
Your argument in another thread was something like "we already have too many playable factions, making it harder for people to make a choice"...... Seriously?
You're free to ask whatever you want, as i am free to comment on w/e i want.
In essence, your comment suggests the following "Way too many factions. This is bad because it will confuse players and they won't know what to choose".
What kind of logic is that? Is it really your thinking that upon the selection screen and seeing "so many" factions (11 factions... how is that too many), players will be so dazed and confused that their reaction will be "well! there's no way i pick one, i better press that Exit game button and proceed with my life".
It's ridiculous logic and you know.
The only circumstance under which this is acceptable is if some precious faction didn't make into the game on it's first days and the player(s) will be like "meh, faction X isn't here, i dunno what the hell to play". Well tough luck!
