    Default Need Help

Okay, in order to prepare my computer for Medievil Total War II, I want to upgrade my computer and need some advice. I want to get a PCI-Express video card and PCI-Express motherboard and anything else needed to upgrade it from PCI normal to PCI-Express, so the question is how much will it cost? and what exactly will I need?

    Salaam,
    Adnan

[EDIT] I have a motherboard that looks like this meaning the PCI slots and that AGP slot:

Does that mean that I can put in AGP video cards in there? And if so, what kind? 4x, 8x, etc.

Well your ram is DDR2, so that means your computer must be pretty new, and that also means you got socket LGA775 right? If thats the case you got a PCI-E slot for graphics card.

If my guess is right, upgrading the comptuer should be pretty easy, since LGA775 is pretty new and a good PCI-E graphics card is dirt cheap these days.

I still need to know what socket you have though. Here's a example of a CPU-Z screen shot:

Paste the line that goes after "Package", in this case its LGA775.

And also do your motherboard have some small slots along with one big slot(usually black)? If thats the case you got a PCI-E slot. If all it has is one big slot and the rest of them is normal PCI slots then its a AGP motherboard.

My guess is no PCI-E slot. You're lucky you even have an AGP slot - if your PC is actually an HP. You might want to double check that it does in fact have an AGP, as I am under the impression that ASUS mobo's nicknamed Goldfish have neither.

Well, intel's memory controllers are not in the CPU, but in the mobo, so that may be a bit hasty.

Yea, he will need a new motherboard. The good part is he can keep everything else, since they are fairly new.

Yup, but I wonder if a new mobo would even fit inside his HP case, since companies like Dell uses their own specifications.
