Default What about gameplay? why would I buy this game?

Release date, preorder bonuses, good, good. Now, what has this game different from Rome I to make me buy it? why are land battles better? what about naval battles? Many many things are still unknown. A list of new features? For me this game is still a mystery. why would you buy this game?

I would think because your a total war fan. I would assume because you've played at least one previous game before. And I'm pretty sure this will be the same but with prettier graphics and campaign map, and some long overdue added features. But your right, if we pre-order we definetly should at least get a video of the campaign map and another video of the battle map. preferably with a faction that isnt ROme.

Hey Sun Jetzu. I mean no disrespect but my opinion is that buying sequels of a franchise just because you're a fan without basing each game on its own merit is not a good idea. To me that brings up the haunting spectre of Call of Duty, FIFA, Halo, Battlefield and such franchises that are being bought by the millions by fans who really enjoyed the originals but overlook the fact that they are paying a lot of money for little innovation aside from upgraded graphics.

Now i am not saying being loyal to a franchise is bad. I actually love the Halo, Mass Effect, Battlefield and Total War franchises but i remain critical of their flaws and missed opportunities to introduce innovation and a better gameplay experience. Opinions of course differ, but mine is that if you are loyal to a franchise you will not support any installments or sequels of it that are sub-par, nor should someone encourage dubious DLC/microtransation/pre-order practices.

Just my 2 cents enjoy the weekend!

The starting point is Shogun 2, not Rome 1. There are already a whole bunch of expanded features in how the campaigns and battles are fought since Rome 1. You can safely assume these things will generally be improved from Shogun 2, with inexplicable backslides in a few areas that will later be fixed with patches and mods.

Emm, there's been tons of information about the game. Just look in the sticked threads.

Id buy it because of everything iv read about it, it seems like a really big improvement over the first rome and the other TWs. As regards gameplay, the two videos of battles that have been released thus far look great, the speed of units in the teutoburg forest walkthrough worry me, i really hope they are not speeding up unit speed by that much, even if they are im sure it will be modded. If by gameplay you mean the campaign map (the heart and soul of the series in my opinion), i too am eager to see both the map and maybe a few turns of gameplay, E3 is coming up though and next rally point might revel the map.

It would be nice to see a feature list (for which I am going to pay 45 euros/dollars/pounds ...,) new compared to Rome or last game. Anyway this is Rome II, the same historical period, so it is natural to campare it to Rome I. And what about knowing the price of the Greek culture pack if I do not preorder so I can decide better? I am a many hours dedicated modder of Empire, so I like the game but I also know it has had many problems and gameplay limits. I really would like to enjoy this new game, much more than Rome I and its great mods, that is something we could expect due to the time it has passed since the first version. But as I said I haven't got today a clear image of how the game will work. Maybe this is just a matter of communication from the developers not a problem of the game it self. I am not angry or unsatified at all, but I just want to point out what I see and what my feelings are about buying this game in the actual state of the information about it. Sticky threads are a mess and full of desires of posters not so much of information about the game.

People aren't interested in this today. They want to get their "free" stuff now,buy into a game that is not well understood and still months away. They'll be reminded of the limits on Sept. 3 though.

I agree to an extent. I want to see more detail about diplomacy, economics, assassinations and forming plots, sub-factions/families, technological progression, and everything else that is going to be in the game. I'd also like to see how naval battles will be, and some good analysis videos showing how each faction fights and what makes them actually different. It also be nice to know how the AI has improved, if at all?

They probably won't show those things because, in all likelyhood, they're exactly the same as they were in Shogun 2.

I'll bet $10 that naval battles are just Shogun 2's with more ramming.

I would buy this game because it's been discounted by 75% on a steam sale. The introduction of culture packs before game release just tells me that it's going to be as crappy as shogun 2. But it'll be worth the $10 I finally end up paying.

I agree Bethencourt, We really have very few details on gameplay, Campaign and battlemaps.
Faction diplomacy, army size, will there be reinforcements ? naval engagements, Will there be a Roman Senate civil War and how exactly does the Senate system work.
Last perhaps but not least, Victory conditions. Are they the same for all factions?

Anyway I do hope our CA friends expand on these issue,s and I wish them every success with their release.

No doubt the "fanboys" will descend and call you ungrateful and blah blah for daring to question CA and TW, but this is one of the most relevant threads i have seen in this sub forum in sometime!

I would challenge anyone from CA to come here and answer, why they think we should preorder a game we know next to nothing about.

We have had what? 2 pre alpha, heavily scripted, heavily edited battle vids and a few screenies. As for talk about features, or AI, we get "We're not ready to talk about it yet" or "we will reveal soon", well these issues are what will decide if i buy the game, never mind pre order it, so until there is more info i defo wont be pre-ordering and am still not sure about a purchase.

Cmon CA, before you Ass rape me at least flirt a little bit!!

Yes its very odd no real hard information about anything really, mind you I suspect if you look at the previous Warscape games you will have a pretty could idea of what to expect.

What has surprised me the most though is that its out in September and while I know Warscape can vomit out a game if need be September seems to suggest a case of Diarrhoea as well.

Three months for CA to convince me. I think, I am sure, that everyone here expects CA to give more information or else this Rome II forum could be closed untill release. It is their interest, their responsability with themselves as workers, with the users, the stock holders to make a good information campaign so the game has the sales the effort of development requires. Others players information is secondary, and many times contradictory.

Yes, that would answer quite a few questions.

We either need a demo or beta access, so far there haven't been a SINGLE footage from a real battle, nor the campaign. Everything is scripted.

Seriously, when you're opening up for pre-orders, you really need to show the full potential of the game...
