Maybe they done that to made Epirus also a more interersting option other than Athens and Sparta, and to rapresent the presence of the Aetolian League. Personally I liked a Macedon kingdom rapresented as true dominant entity of the area with three regions, I hope that now is not too weak.
From my humble point of view, Larissa region should be owned by Macedon at start becouse was more correct, also becouse Macedonian kingdom was very meddled in the aetolian league affairs" but i know that this is game, and the dev done different choiches that are not linked directly to my arguments.
