Default MTW II - huge report from Lipsk!

Until the last moments I was not sure if I manage to reach Leipzig on time. From Wednesday to Sunday (23rd - 27th of August 2006) the annual Games Convention was taking part there. Thanks to the great German highways I arrived on time but having only two hours (from 16 to 18) for checking everything I was interested in, was some kind of 'mission impossible'. I guess it was my bad that I found what I was looking for in the last hall - that's why I had only one hour to learn as much as possible about Medieval II: Total War. I started as fast as possible to not lose any single minute. I was doing this with such a great passion that I even exceeded the closing time for over half an hour and I left Leipziger Messe as one of the last visitors. I will write my general overview at the end of this report. Now let's head to the essence - the game.. or rather to the demontration version prepared for GC.

Organisators prepared the Battle Tutorial (for those who don't know what's this - it is a part of tutorial that explains the basic rules of commanding your army, all this of course in full 3D), two historical battles (Azincourt - 1415, Pavia - 1525) and quite big trailer presenting some strong points of the game. The demo that was available in Leipzig didn't reveal any strategic mechanisms but - according to the information that I've heard from Sega - this aspect should be added to the public demo which is still being worked out.

There is also a very positive news although I'd prefer to stay realistic and do not fall into too big optimism. Anyway, the man from the Sega's stall said, that the Creative Assembly team is seriously considering adding a full online campaign to the expansion pack of MTW II. Probably you will be shocked by this news - just as I was, so I will repeat it once more - this information is unofficial and not confirmed. It of course doesn't mean that it has to be just a rumour but.. Anyway, fingers crossed.

hmm, cavalry sounds like it is much too weak this time around, I hope that isn't the case.

Heavy Cav was the dominating force in RTW, an age of infantry, and now in MTW they have severely nerfed it, in a time where heavy cavalry was king.

I agree about the cavalry, but I also don't think we should get too worried about it since I'm sure it's something that is easily moddable.

    Still,
I appreciate the fact that there is a M2TW in the first place.

Hello, the pictures you are asking for are here - http://www.totalwar.org.pl/?ShowGal=55 However, the quality is not too good.. On the other hand, you can exactly see how does the game look like - no photoshop was used . There are screens presenting things that were mentioned in the report - splashing blood after being hit by arrow, four 'sleeping' warriors leaning on the lances etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about the problems yet. Remember that this is an old build of the game. The actual demo will most likely be a newer build. Then the final version. I'm sure they will make lots of improvements before the final version is released.

good looking screenshots (well the shots are actually pretty horrible, but you can tell the game looks good), a positive and negative from them:

Negative: The green arrows are still around (easy fix, but I don't know why they ever included them in the first place)

Positive: One screenshot shows dismounted Chivalric Knights, which means the dismount feature is back!
