    Default Chinese Dynasty RPG Setting

Yes people, its time to choose something that is outside the usual mold of settings. I would like to see what others think of the idea of a Chinese rpg set in one of the great dynasties of the Imperial Era. Please give your support to any and all choices! And please, discuss anything helpful and constructive to the idea of a Chinese rpg.

    Ideas for rpg name:
    1. All Under Heaven
    2. The Middle Kingdom

Voted. Although for the Song, will it be before or after they lose control of Northern China to the Jin?

Once the dynasty is chosen, then the period of which we will be playing will be chosen.

To be honest, there's so many styles we could build the game as well.
First things first, we want to nail down the era.

I voted for Warring States and 3 Kingdoms just because the time period is unpredictable and very chaotic, which always makes good use for RP.

I will probably play this, but I will have to read up on whatever period is chosen, as my knowledge of Chinese history is only from Jet Li movies and a John le Carre book. Gwailo.

I like Song the best, but if we choose a period of disunity, we may be able to make a multi-faction system.

If one dynasty, we will probably be court officials, military leaders for important characters, and bandits and soldiers and merchants for less important characters.

It might be best to consolidate into one faction, even during periods of disunity. Cause if we do multi-faction, there would be a lot of people with multi chars and npcs. And that won't be much fun either.

Plus if we focus into one faction/kingdom, its more organized and control. If we do multi-faction, it can get really hectic and out of control for us.

I would rather it just be all people in one faction/kingdom.

You'd have to pick an all-round accommodating and popular faction then.

I'd support a Dong Zhuo-esque Imperial court at Luoyang if Three Kingdoms.

Song or Tang would be good unified periods.

From the looks of the choices, we have Warring States, Three Kingdoms or 5 Dynasties and 10 Kingdoms

If we go with Warring States, I suspect we will choose one of the well known Kingdoms like Qin, Chu, etc etc

As for Three Kingdoms, we can vote on which kingdom we will be a part of.

As for the last option, that will take a lot of research that I can do to figure out a good nation we can play as.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tang would be better as opposed to Song, due to more respect for military positions in the former.
I think Song (it may have been another era) had all well-born men become foppish scholars while farmers and barbarians were soldiers.

Edit: Also, Tang is a very powerful and rich bracket in China's history, arguably the highest point of Imperial China.

I would put my entire weight behind this, along with "The Prince".
We need something new like this.
