    Default Units for garrison

What units do you use for garrison? Because face it, you cannot handle with temples and other buildings good order, especialy outside of Italy. Is there any unit like militia? I use later velites (something on a), but there is only 160 of them, so any advice please? I hope there is some militia unit, just that I didnt found it out because of the tricky building system in RSII

There is not, you are faced with the less expensive unit to garrison. Only at my borders i try to keep larger garrison, at least if ill do a defence based on sallies or defending the walls. In my core regions a Governor is most of the time enough.

i only use those which have the lowest upkeep..

    edit:

my border towns (as roman) have 2x auxilia cav, 4x auxilia infantry (i like to make it a mix of several kinds if available) and 2x archers (eastern or western depending on geographic location).

I tend to use slingers - which are usually the cheapest unit I can find. I train up governors with decent attributes to keep most of the settlements happy. I also have rpelacement governors available to take over.

Even my border settlements are lightly garrisoned.

I will put a single (cheapest) unit in a fort at natural choke points and have some armies at the ready to cover various border incursions.

build up academys to the max level and leave your new governers in that city for a wyle.they will get treats and retinues.building things in a city will give them also new treats and so.thats how you train them.
i use 2 archers and 2 infantry in my citys, they are my police force.(not that it is needed but just to roleplay a bit)
    and a governer offcorse

Transfer the retinues from older governors to the young generals. Move them in the same settlement and drag and drop the retinue. In time some of them became quite competent. The older will usually regain the retinue and i usually do a rinse and repeat.
RS2 however is designed in a way that not all characters will have the same results. Their building work will also have an impact on their performance.
In some of the Greek cities you will conquer they can also enter the engineering schools. In time they will get better.

upkeep per soldier, not only recruitment price is importent. They are gona stay 100+ turns in this city,so extra 100 gold for more troops is better

Any ranged unit on a stone wall will do great.... I personally just train whatever the first barracks can train and a few javelins and sally forth every time until they become to weak to actually assault.

I use the Celtic Archer and then the Eastern Auxilia Archer for a Garrison. Just the one unit and a Governor are more than enough for a Settlement once things are under control. Only a very few settlements seem to take longer than a few years to bring under control. Active Governor management as above can help a lot. As well as using Spies & Assassins wherever the AI seem particularly pesky.

Destroy most captured Temples - then build the lower level Law & Happiness buildings. Works for me.
