    Default Handing regions to other factions

    Does anyone have any experience with doing this on a large scale, say if you find yourself too powerful and at risk of defeating your neighbours ahead of any proper development? Interested in any strategies for doing so, such as whether it would be better to hand a bunch to one faction, divvy them up among a group of factions, transfer them in stages or all at once etc.

    I'm at turn 1120 and control about 60% of the map.

    Thanks! Dan

    I'd say create a crazy quilt map. Give the Byzantines Nottingham, Corinth, and Antioch. Give the Moors London, Thessalonica, and Jerusalem. Give the Milanese Caernarvon, Constantinople, and Acre. Each faction should have plenty of territory, but almost no contiguous regions. It'll be fun to see how the chaos sorts itself out.

    Hah, that would be pretty interesting. I destroyed the Venetians right when one of their ex-crusading armies (at full strength) was passing through the Constantinople area. Said army went from being Venetian to Rebels and pow! The Byzantines were occupied for some time.

    @HoS year 1120 sorry!

    I did a test last night transferring to the Hungarians everything in a vertical line from Stettin-Vienna-Zagreb and across to Ras (eight regions). What was interesting was each city seemed to be given whole blocks of cavalry and infantry units, the best form available (not unlike what you get as a reward from the Council for completing a mission). I wonder whether this was purchased by the Hungarians (which would mean that the transfer delivers a windfall cash gain) or whether it's in the script and it comes with the transfer, not unlike a garrison.

    when a settlement is transferred by diplomacy, a garrison automatically spawns in the settlement. The troops generated depend on the recruitment facilities present. If there are no recruitment facilities in the settlement, you get a bunch of mercenary crossbowmen iirc.
    This also happens if the AI gives you a settlement.

    I use a kind of "deportation": when i ask a faction to be my protectorate, i generally offer them a settlement at the other edge of my territory. So they lack coherence to succeed in revolting and defend my borders.

    In a recent Moorish campaign, late era (with stainless steel 6.4), i wanted to take benghazi which was on my eastern border but owned by my ally, Egypt. So i launched a Djihad against Acre, took the city and traded it for Benghazi.
