Default The Future for Total War

Take a second to close your eyes and imagine the Total War genre in about 10 or 20 years. When high-tech computers are built for anything. Where thousands and thousands of soldiers are fighting each other in one battle, with hundreds and hundreds of animations and yells. Smoke, fire, cries, etc.

How do you imagine the future of Total War?

    This.

Impossible to know where we'll be with the technology of games at that point but it's fun to imagine some sort of genuine virtual reality.

I think that with virtual reality we would be able to BE one of the soldiers, or maybe the general. We would have thousands of men fighting realitstically on a battle-field, and no lag.

A campaign map of the entire world spanning the Roman era to the 1800s with a near human AI and realistic animations and unit sizes.

Nose hair visible in graphics and differing by individual. More flaming pigs, wardogs and hordes of animal skinned berserkers. Same old suicidal AI generals.

Probably with Google Goggle or other types of HUD (Head up display) with super high resolution of DOF (Degree of Freedom) compass.

The view probably can be first person view, and out of body as well.

If it does adapt to virtual reality and such...truly awesome, just imagine games like mount and blade warband, but you being one of those soldiers.

    Two decades?

We should be close doing away with the blob unit formations at that point.

You can have a taste of what it can be by reading Dan Simmons's Hyperion. A soldier is learning how to fight by participating in an historic battle in the body of an anonymous fighter through some irtual reality huge UI. It's an awesome description.
" Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room! "
