    Default Solar System Synopsis [WIP]

Welcome to Anno Magna, The Years of Greatness, as they were prematurely named.

Roughly, two to three centuries have passed since the Transitional Era of the early 21st century, and Mankind has spread not only to Mars and Venus, but across the Asteroid Belt and to Jupiter's moons.
Collective population has popped 20 billion, and almost half of that 20 billion resides entirely in the space colony clusters in orbit at the Earth-Moon Lagrangian Points, and less than 3 billion reside on Earth.
Earth itself requires it's planetary and orbital colonies to sustain itself and its current status-quo, as current theories estimate it can no longer support any more than 1/3 of it's current population by itself.
Mars is an industrial powerhouse, while the moons of Jupiter provide much needed gas-related industry from Jupiter itself (especially Helium-3), and Venus is a peaceful corner of civilization, insignificant in recent years.

Humankind is united under one flag, the Earth Federation, but no end to conflict is in sight.
Despite the hopes of Human civilization at the beginning of Anno Magna, demilitarization never happened, and conflict and blood continue to plague the human race; the same problems, just on a solar scale.

    The Troubles of Anno Magna
    Society in Anno Magna
    Perhaps unintentionally, a "Neo-Aristocracy", as it is criticized, has formed, where Earth-based families and organizations dominate the politics of the Earth Federation, and more often than not, space-born citizens from outside the Earth Sphere (that is, beyond the Moon) are without self-rule;
members of the inner federation, the Earth Sphere, have the most say in government, with the people of the Asteroid Belt being the most neglected.

The Earth Federation has the inhabited Solar System cut into 4 (really 5) sectors:
The Earth Sphere - Earth, the 5 Lagrangian Points, and it's Lunar facilities
The Venusian Sector - the three orbital colonies around Venus
The Martian Sector - the crater-cities on Mars
The Belt Territories - the many mining colonies on Asteroids in the belt between Mars and Jupiter; not given Sector status
The Jovian Sector - the 3 ocean worlds of Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa, and the desert moon, Io.

The Martian and Venusian Sectors have what is called "Colony A" status, given more representation in government.
The Jovian Sector and the Belt Territories have what is called "Colony B" status, which is close to no proper representation.

Thus, many critical theorists have mapped society as a pecking order:
    The Earthborn Elite
    Earth Sphere Citizens (Orbital Colonists)
    "Spacenoids"

Despite this, Martian and Venusian populations remain indifferent with the Earth Federation, and the 9 Billion or so who live in the Orbital Colony Clusters around Earth actively support it.

    Recent History
Around 3/4 a century ago, a scientific thinker and erstwhile psychiatrist, Albrecht Loum, spread what was originally called "Ere-ism", a belief that (1) the Earth is sacred, (2) Humans must leave it, and (3) that Humans must protect it.
However, as it spread, it became known as "Loumism", and was most popular among the discontent radicals among the Jovian and Asteroid Belt populations; and thus, after half a century, the pacifistic Albrecht Loum's idealistic teachings were turned into a radical justification for terrorists to end the Earth Federation.

The new Loumism also absorbed it's sister belief, the Newtype Theory:
Declared as false by the Earth Federation, and claimed by space-born radicals as the heralds of the next step of human evolution,
"Newtypes" are humans who have shown potentials for slightly higher capacities of human conscientiousness, believed to be caused by generations of life in space colonies.
While the "differences" are not very readily apparent, these supposed Newtype humans have quicker reaction times and some have shown to be able to take higher levels of stress.

Growing like a snowball by now, Loumism radicals gathered on the Jovian moon, Io, a now-defunct desert planet once precious for its rare materials.

In AM 271, the Earth Sphere's Orbital Government Complex and Residence of the Prime Minister, the Galileo Colony, was destroyed in a terrorist attack, annihilating a third of the current government officials from Earth at the time, including Prime Minister Roger Cardenas.
Almost simultaneously, the Jupiter Fleet, the Earth Federation's Jovian garrison force, was almost entirely annihilated in large scale surprise attacks on Earth Federation bases in the Jovian Sphere.
After the attacks, Io broadcast it's declaration of independence & war against the Earth Federation, as well as most significantly declaring the infant granddaughter of Albrecht Loum, Ana Sazabi, a civilian of Mithra 5 in the Asteroid Belt, their Sovereign Princess.
Ana and her widower father, Janus Sazabi, were soon procured by Io.

What became known as the Ionian War lasted just under 15 years; within the first five years, The Loum Republic (Io), occupied its sibling moons, and then fought off several insufficient Earth Federation counterattacks for around eight years.
Finally, the Earth Federation surmounted a proper attack on The Jupiter Sphere in early AM 285, launching both the Martian and Lunar Fleets from Mithra 5, and into battle.

In a series of battles that lasted almost seven months, called the Battle of Lutz, the Earth Federation fleets gained footing by taking control of Europa, success being attributed to the lack of staying power by the Ionians (who relied on older fighter models, and not as many battleships).
    By 286, the Republic of Loom was becoming desperate in its defense of Io;
The Earth Federation government, unsympathetic due to the Ionians' terrorist attacks and becoming weary of the casualties of the war, called for Prime Minister Emry Namur to launch several nuclear attacks on Io from Ganymede and Callisto.

On April 26th, AM 286, nine nuclear missiles hit Io's sphere, six from Ganymede, three from Callisto.
The Ionian armed forces had retreated onto their homeworld, expecting a planetary invasion; as such, Io's resistance was crippled, and on May 13th AM 286, the Republic of Loum surrendered.

Earth Federation forces landed on Io, taking control, arresting government officials and those they believed connected to the terrorist attacks.
Janus Sazabi was executed on July 6, AM 288, for conspiracy to commit mass murder; the young "Princess Ana of Loum" however, is believed to be smuggled off Io by Loumist Remnants.

The date is now AM 296, and spacenoid colonies have become further estranged with the Earth Federation government and it's increased denial of their right to self-rule. Loumism begins to spread across the Jovian worlds, and Ionian Remnants continue their guerrilla attacks every now and then, while international military organizations and policing forces attempt to root out them out.

    The Worlds of Anno Magna
    The Earth Sphere

The Earth contains approx. 2.6 Billion people, while the 7 Space Colony "Sides" contain approx. 9.3 Billion.
The Moon remains un-terraformed, instead used for military bases, penitentiaries, and a renowned military academy.
An asteroid once named Ulysses was pulled into orbit at the 3rd Lagrange Point, and renamed Luna II, used as a military complex.

"Sides" are several "bunches"; "bunches" are several colonies attached together.
There are seven Sides, each containing a major populace, staying in orbit at the 5 Lagrange Points, stable points of orbit.
    Each side has it's own nickname; (Side 1 - Columbia, Side 2 - New Manhattan, Side 3 - Bradbury, Side 4 - Megalanica, Side 5 - Lukas, Side 6 - Industria, and Side 7 - New Bohemia).

After the many problems of the first century of Anno Magna, production of weapons is illegal on the Sides, leaving the 9 or so billion civilians of the Sides as a peaceful industry. However, the majority of the Earth Federation's military is recruited from this pool.
Thus, the Earth Sphere colonists actively support the Earth Elite.

The Space Colonies being self-sustainable biospheres inside rotating tubes, Earth is heavily supported by agricultural production from the colonies.

    Mars

At the dawn of its colonization, Mars was considered impractical to terraform due to its magnet, so instead, replenishible atmospheres were added to the many craters of its surface, as well as the gigantic the canyon complex, the "Mariner Valleys", where urban metropoli were established.

Now containing a little over 3 billion people, almost 2/3 of the Martian people live in "Marina", a gigantic metropolis complex in the Mariner Valleys, split into three districts: the labyrinthine Noctis, central Melas, and the slums of Hebes.

Mars has a major industrial scene, becoming the capital of mass-production, due to its rocky surface.

Since recent decades, a plan to terraform Mars has begun, but it still remains a red desert without sufficient oxygen outside the craters at this time.

    Venus

Venus was the second astronomical body to be terraformed. Or, attempted anyway.

Orbital colonies were built around Venus, 3 specifically, in preemption of an inhabitable Venus; they began the process, but after about twenty years, major miscalculations were detected, and the plan was dropped indefinitely, leaving the colonials in the orbital facilities.

The 1.9 Billion who live in the Venusian Colonies have become quiet, content folk, despite the air of failure surrounding Venus.
    Politically, Venus is relatively ignored.

    Asteroid Belt

Between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter lies the Asteroid Belt, where many asteroid-based colonies have been built.
Some were hollowed out to be behave like space colonies, others were pulled together to create shelters for indoor-cities.
A dwarf planet, Ceres, was considered for terraforming, but ended up having the same status of the asteroid colonies.

Becoming the dark sad part of human civilization, the asteroid belt has just less than a half-billion inhabitants, and its industry is almost entirely based off mining (and self-sustainable agriculture inside the colonies).

    Jupiter

The terraformed Jovian worlds beyond the asteroid field are largely aquatic, with the exception of Io, a desert world.
In order of size, Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa, are part of one political region, known as the Jupiter Sphere under the Earth Federation.

Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa, are stormy, oceanic moons, with large fishing and agricultural industries, while Io was once important for its rare materials.

While not in terrible straits, the Jovian worlds are, due to their position at the far side of human civilization, always a little behind the Earth Sphere in technology, and its people live in a more average to poor economic disparity.

While Loumism first spread in the asteroid belt, it is here that it became significant and dangerous, partially responsible for the Ionian War.

Around a little over four-and-a-half billion people collectively live in the Jupiter Sphere.

The date is now Anno Magna 296; As the 300th anniversary of humanity's latest bloody chapter draws near, what will you do?

We have a few options when it comes to explaining space travel, either incorporating some hyperspace technology or adjusting the years for current trip times.

Very interesting. I look forward to seeing this form.
Is this from scratch or is it based on something sci-fi that I'll be lambasted for not knowing?
Also, why such a small population on Earth, relatively?

    1) It is it's own "thing", but it's heavily based off basic ideas and opinions about terraforming, my own opinions about human tendency, and takes a lot from the anime series' of Cowboy Bebop and Gundam.
I have completely refrained from using any Western-based sci-fi media, which is interesting to note.

    2) Such proportions make it interesting mainly.
While delving the population to such a low number (compared to now) seems drastic and potentially unrealistic, at the same time, we tend to forget how overcrowded we are on Earth.
I cannot recall the pre-industrial populations, but I think 3 Billion is still a very high number.
And with the colonial age opening doors to the galaxy, there would eventually be a mass exodus from Earth.
Still, I'm not that confident; so the exodus will be explained in a timeline that will eventually be provided by Lucius Malfoy.
Something along the lines of a supposed WW3 and increased versions of current issues propelling us into space.

I would definitly support this RPG and join it.
Already have a character in mind designed which may be very interesting.

    You mean the idea?
I actually thought about a transsexual character, who was born as a male person and now lives as a female person in Earth society after an operation. I think such a person has a lot of potential for deep background and good RP, especially when it's around feelings and stuff like this.
I only need to know how high the acceptance of such persons is in the future of our RP and how much the technology developed for operations like this.

Huh. Heard of it, never played it.

Edit: Only influences are Gundam and Cowboy Bebop.

Sounds fun. Do we play individual citizens, leaders of sectors, or something else?

You will be able to play individuals all over the society.

Perhaps you are an officer in the army and a member of this Neo-Aristocracy. You use your money and connections to fly up the military to become a City's security chief
Maybe you are one of the followers of Loumism, hoping to achieve the destiny of your beliefs
You can be a number of professions with a very unique background.

I am not sure if we will allow leaders of sectors though.

There will be plenty of opportunities. We are unsure of where we may set this roleplay, but we believe that Mars may be the battleground. All the additional information will help people make up backgrounds of what planet they came from, what they believe and perhaps where they are in society.

The idea lends itself for anyone to be anything from an influential Earth Ambassador to an Ionian Guerrilla to a bounty hunter from Venus.
Ideally, I'd like to see mass adventure, but at the same time, everyone's actions affecting the world of AM, and all the stories weaving together.

I would like to play a martian governor perhaps leading the teraforming project. This looks really good full support.

I highly doubt we'll let people start with such high positions from the start, although I don't want to restrict people from getting involved in government.
