Hi all ,
I played Medieval Totalwar 2 in Leipzig for several hours.
There were 2 types of Demos, the first was Tutorial ( kinda similar to Rome) and two Battles , (Agincourt and Pavia ) and a Overview Trailer aswell.
----- To the Battles -----
Before the battle there were some beautiful intro for every scenario were you see the troops marching to the battlefield and the landscape details are impressive.
The Demo Battles were very very easy to win and i have to say the combat is pretty fast , even infantry combat.
The battle details aren't that beautiful like we all wished them. If a soldier gets a hit he suddenly gets a bloody color all over his body, the second hit is his death. The varity of special combat moves were pretty low sadly.
The AI , especially the French horsemen troops in Agincourt were totally braindead.. once they attacked the bowmen and killed some they didnt react any longer.. no attacks on other troops .. nothing ... they were easy kills for other archers. I think the AI was heavily scripted in the demo.
Corpses are stacking and this time you see weapons other things on the ground when the soldiers die.
The second Demo was a Campaign Mode where the Sega guys showed some new aspects of the Game , like the Assassin Videos, the Diplomatic Mode , the New World and a Siege Battle in Arabia.
For the most time i watched the sega guy playing because there weren't allowed to let someone otherwise play the campaign mode but in the end we played a bit together. Reason?
The game is finished up to 70% and they were only able to show some things that work , all other things crashed Medieval 2 :p
We played a Battle in Arabia and i have to say the walls are pretty strong now for catapults fire and the details on a hit are great and the cities are very large. We didn't finished the battle tho..
He played around a bit and moved spies and princess around and showed the "New World" (Its a small part on the map , left to the main map (very small )
To the end we moved the English army to Scotland and the battle was like 2900 against 2600.
The scenario was a full forest map and it was winter.
There was no lag at all but after some minutes Medieval crashed again because some things aren't finished yet
To the Campaign map
- The terrain so much greater than Rome .. so many little details and sweet landscape
- The French KI was pretty agressive on the campaign map but we both wondered about the diplomatics.
French was allied with us and suddenly they attacked and conquered Caen.
- 21 different Nations
- 250 Units
- Missions were kinda similar to Rome
- There Speeching in Campaign and Battles seems almost twiced.
Can be good but also bad after a while.
Something to add for Mulitplayer
There seems nothing new yet to Multiplayer
Menu was the same like Rome and there is no MP campaign.
The Sega guy said they want to do it and plan it for the addon. (well how often we heared that)
----------------------------
I dont like the fast battles somehow, but the game is 70% and will be released in November 2006
The Demo is planned for October and will be the one with Tutorial and the two battles from GC for sure.
But some happy thing for the Total Realism creators.
Mark Sutherns , Marketing Manager from Creative Assembly said for him personally Total Realism is very impressive but impossible to do it by themselves because its pointed to hardcore players and CA wants to reach all types of players but it's are great work that you did and he hopes that the fans of Medieval 2 will do something for this game aswell. (He can't wait!!)
That was my little report
Sorry if you don't understand everything
It's late here and my mother language is german
