Nice!!CA.
Good unit. No garish colours or 10ft Longbow so I'm happy. Wonder how it differs from normal longbowmen(in terms of recruitment when and how)

Did they really make the effort to armour longbowmen in those days? I seems a little far fetched, but then again I am no expert...
Why armor archers? Just send volley after volley into the enemy followed by the heavy cavalry to run through the formation and infatry to mop up the mess.....archers would just stand there with the reserve and not fight in melee, they were too important.
Archers too important to send in to mele? Hardly. They're freking peasants for gods sake, it's a wonder that they have any battlefield use at all. And if they had actualy had some equipment for a mele, they would have been sent to die in droves like the rest of the infantry.
Longbowmen were valued because of their high ability. They practiced using the longbow all there life. The level of skill with the bow made them valuable. Perhaps you should think before typing. In fact the english made sure people kept practicing with the longbow so they would have a steady supply. The longbow had a considerable draw strength. Then again this is a game and all sorts of morons can play how they like.Originally Posted by hsimoorb

Not true at all. The English longbow men were an essential part of their army and were required to practice daily.Originally Posted by hsimoorb
it's true. At long distances they couldn't penetrate the very strong plate armor. It could only be done at a close distance by which time the French knights would've been on top of them.what are u talking about??the longbow had the arrows with the iron point they could penetrate plate armour, please show me some link that say otherwise
as for my source, I saw it on some history channel show.

Nice, hopefully archers will be a bit more useful in this game other than just ranged units.
Nice unit, though I'd expect the unarmoured longbowmen to be much more practical. Probably cheaper, and who needs archers to fight melee anyway?
Maybe the longbow its a substitute for the javelin pepering the enemy before engaging in combat, the lonbow has a higher range that a troing spear or javelin, they could have special use on the batlefield
in agnicourt, after exhausting their arrows, the longbow men joined their men-at-arms comrade with axes, clubs, swords.... and hacked the french knights to pieces.
So yes, they are more than just peasant.
That king was Edward 1 of England also known as Longshanks.
nice unit and next will have the very heavy armored longbowmen with nuclear arrows![]()

One of the most effective ways of killing French and other foreign knights was for one Longbowmen to hold the knight still while the other rammed a sword/knife through the breathing pieces/eye holes of the knights helmet. This is of course once the knight had been felled from his horse. At Agincourt certainly they provided the English men-arms with the numbers to out-flank the remaining enemy soldiers and inflict so many casualties.
really great unit =)

If you remember in MTW longbowmen were the only archers capable of holding their own in a fight. I hope they show us billmen next, thatll really complete the english faction.
Was about time they showed this one. :tooth:
