Default Who will Inherit Your Throne?

I'm playing a game as Macedon, and I'm kind of role playing out a situation in my kingdom. There is a struggle between those who want only descendants of Philip V to be king (Philippians; they believe that only sons of Philip or sons of their sons can become descendants. Related, but only by mother? No way!), those who will allow mixed blood (Damosians; being related by only mother is fine), and those who don't care -- so long as they get the job done! (Euenesians; anyone can become king!) My question is, how do you people pick who your heir is?

Also, if you pick Other, please tell me what you mean by it. I voted other because, like I said, I'm kind of role playing this out which ideology will win in my kingdom. So far, the Philippians definately have the best people, but the empire is being stretched out and the adoption of local aristocrats is becoming more efficient. So far, the leading ideology is called Lyssimachism, where the Philippian dynasty can rule so long as they are good. If they are not, then they are voted out and a new dynasty is put into power. This is the middle ground.

When my king is 60+ i`m looking for under 21 with command ability who will be ready soon to be ruler.Sons are allways with priority.I don`t need drunkin companions siting in capitol. In result most of my kings becames Historic Leaders http://imageshack.us/f/853/conqv.jpg/ .This one is a badass with battle scars, one eye, battle wounds, leader from the front and conqueror. He survived plague too so the heir must be Ares or some other god

That's really cool Odesos. When your country is done expanding so rapidly, will you shift to influence and management?

i never expand too rapidly.if i can`t manage new citys i just destroy baraks and blacksmiths and go away.i have academis to the max lvl in every city and in result governors are prety good at all. i never use my FL as governor,it`s more like a comendante

im not realy look if its direct famely from my FL, i make my second best commander heir and that is my main character for expanding my empire
i try to command an other army with a direct link to one of my former leaders and give him the heir if he is good, otherwise its an other one.
i let my heir do the work on the battlefields and my leader in the capital,if he dies my heir quits battles and move to capital and a new heir takes over the main army.

I think a leader in a city is a waste of the perks that a leader often has. Troop morale, influence in newly conquered cities, etc

What I do is when my king is 60 he leaves his army. I have usually 2 or 3 "royal" armies. One for the king (until he is 60) and another for the prince. When the king is 60 he leaves and the prince takes his army and the princes son takes the princes army. Both army's are usually similar but the kings Army features more top royal troops.

The king after leaving his army will go to the capital and die there.

If the king dies in battle and the prince dosent have an heir than ether a loyal brother or loyal general is given that army.

This is used for all factions by me accept Rome. I think Romes family members should focus on management rather then battles.

Also since you have 2-3royal armies with mostly high upkeep units. And another 4-7 other "normal" you should have a big ass emipire

I'm never that organized when time comes for armies to be that big. I just throw them at the wall and keep on pumping the war. Not the most efficient, but I pick up and put down the game a lot.

For the most part my " R P B " non expedition sieges are usually half stack armies with a spy or siege engines targeting the enemies most important economic and military bases. But Expeditions are usually 2 full stacks..1 stack for key geopraphical settlements.

Kings are just another general to me....but is a home general...a governor. Usually my First King is on the front lines fighting it out. ....I don't really pay attention to my Faction Leader or his heir. Extra Bodyguards is always good though.

My king pulls me through time. He defines the generation, the wars, the troubles.

Usually I just make it the most competant of my general's that's closely related and younger than the king. My current King of the Pergamene Empire, that comprises of Egypt, Seleucia, Phoenicia, Anatolia, Greece, and Italy is Xenagoras, who's in his later sixties. His heir is a close cousin that's in mid forties and has been groomed for his next position.

It's Pergamon, after all. There was no real stable line of inheritance with them

For me it depends on what faction it is. Usually I'd go for the FL's first born son, but if someone else has high enough influence then I'd set them as my heir, as if they usurped the throne in some way or another. During the early Rome campiagn I leave it to the game and imagine the Senate elects the next in line. Barbarians will only follow a strong leader etc.
I do enjoy my role playing.

The game I'm playing, the heir is outshining the leader! And he's only around 23! An assassination might happen
