Use BI.exe, the AI is better, of what i know because i do not have it. Your ennemies will, for exemple, do more naval invasion than with RTW.exe. They are very rare without the expansion.
I am sure you can find some topics on the forum who explain the advantages of the diffents .exe.

Alex.exe is even better, so if you have alex to, use that one instead.

do i have to start a new campaign if i start using alex because i just managed to fight off hannibal and beat the roman rebels on BI.exe

The AI in BI does not retrain its units, that makes it much easier. And yes, you have to restart if you want to play with ALX instead of BI.

Well, i heard as well that Alex.exe was better, but Boratlike have the Gold edition. Correct me if i am wrong, but of what i know, this edition just include BI.

The Gold edition has all three, at least the version I have does.

Alex as certaily been added after the release, because all the pages i found about gold edition just mention BI expansion. So i will trust all of you guys.
