On the road south (crafting event)
Although the various cliff faces and rock walls offered little to interest the dwarves in the company (for even if they had the time to test and explore the quality of the rock around them in their regular custom, it would be months before they reached Eregion) sometimes coloration of the rock would intrigue them, or piles of recently eroded stones. Like as not there would be little to find, but after camp had been decided for the night, some of the younger, more restless dwarves would entertain themselves by tinkering nearby. Who knows? Maybe the rock could yield something...
(Miners can attempt to gather materials on the road south, with a negative modifier)

OOC: So do I just say as a miner I would to try and get some materials... or do I have to list which ones I would like to get?

OOC: I'd like one of them then if that is all right.
Balin was a miner by trade, and he couldn't pass up the opportunity to explore some of rock faces even if they didn't like to promising. Still he got his pickaxe out of his pack and made his way over to a section of the cliffs, hoping maybe he would just get a bit lucky...

Bofgrim hardly missed an opportunity to collaborate. Two picks, of course, were better than one.
"Going to investigate that rock, Balin?"
He was already leaning on his pickaxe, smiling from ear to ear

Balin couldn't help but smile in return, "I just thought I'd give it a quick look over, care to join me? Nothing like a bit of practice before we get to Moria."

"Or a chance to pocket some gems."
Bofgrim ran his hand over some of the naked rock, flaking off some crumbling rock.
"It isn't of the best quality, but might be that we could find something."
He raised his pick and brought it down hard on the side of the mountain, chipping away at the weathered outside rock.

"Aye, a little perseverance goes a long way." Balin replies, between Bofgrim's loud bangs against the mountain. He too finds what he thinks is a promising part of the rock wall and gentle taps his pickaxe against it, a little bit of the rock falling off, "Or in this case a lot of perseverance," he mumbles as he starts increasing the power of his swings.

Bofgrim knelt at the scrapings and took some dust in his hands. Tasting it, he rose to his feet.
"Maybe not so bad as we thought..."
He stood and gave three heavy swimgs before breaking into something colorful.
"Behold! The mountain yields gems!"
Several small, colorful rocks are revealed in the stone wall. They are of low quality, but might be able to be fashioned into something splendid.

Re: On the road south (crafting event)
Balin heard Bofgrim's celebration, "The mountain lives my friend, surely this is a good sign?"
Encourage by the recent discovery Balin continues his swings, hoping to discover some other minerals...
