Cullen Washburne, accompanied by a pair of sergeants, strolled through the camp to survey his company. Many of his soldiers were old men, and more than a few barely had whiskers on their chin, but each and every one had something that no Federal could boast - they were Georgians, every last one of them. Some of the men - particularly the ones with hardened faces, scuffed and scarred from their days in Mexico - looked at him with hesitance. His appointment had only come recently, and it was clear that he would have to earn the respect befitting his rank. It would not be given freely.
He scratched at the prematurely-gray whisps in his beard and nodded to the groups of men as he passed. He felt naked without a bloodied apron over his coat. He was familiar with the army, but not with commanding men. The parallel was not lost upon him - the coming field of battle would be a proving ground for himself as much as it would be for the Confederacy, but dammit all, he was Georgian, and so were his boys. They were going to make Hell for the bluecoats. He only hoped that his nervousness was not written across his face.
Captain Higgins' company had been mustered in Hall county, a rural location in the foothills of Georgia. It was a growing but relatively forgotten area of the state, but the young men in the ranks were tried hunters, most of them. They would pick their targets well he was sure. The Regiment would perform admirably. He checked his revolved and sword, instruments of warfare that he was unaccustomed to.
"Captain Washburne, I trust our companies will flank one another in the line. I though I would come and make your acquaintance before the engagement."

Washburne quickly slipped off a glove and offered the bare hand to his fellow officer. "Captain Higgins, I presume? It is good to put a face on the name. There's been much talk around camp that Second Company are amongst the best shots in the entire 24th. I look forward to seeing them in action, and am glad for their presence beside Eighth Company."
OOC: I thought Confederate Jeb was our colonel?

OOC: I didn't notice that, I will change some things with my character then. And my first message didn't happen so I'll be deleting that.
Higgins gave a modest laugh
"Saw one of my privates take down a squirrel at one hundred yards the other day with my own eyes, or else I wouldn't have believed it. Might have gotten lucky, but I wouldn't want to be on the other end of his barrel all the same. The regiment will make Georgia proud, I'm sure of it."
"Indeed it will, Captain Higgins. There isn't a soul north of the Mason-Dixon that can match a Georgia boy shot for shot. By God, the Federals will know the 24th quite well before our first engagement is through."
McDonnell and his company marched through the camp. He had been among the first to get the news when the messenger arrived. The Army of Northern Virginia was marching north to crush the Yankees and conquer Washington, finally giving Georgia the freedom it rightfully deserved. He saw the two captains chatting, it seemed the news hadn't reached them yet.
"Hey, haven't you heard? General Lee has given the order, we're going north! You can stay there and chat all day, but my boys are going to show the Yankees that the South is the greatest!"
He laughed and so did his men.
