Windows 8 - does RTW work?

Fellow RTW+ lovers...

I normally lurk down in the RS2 forum, but have a relatively simple question that would love an equally simple answer. I searched and am more encouraged than I was, but I have heard that:

'RTW no longer runs under Windows 8'

Is this true? Most importantly - will a CD copy of RTW/BI/Alex run on a standalone PC with Windows 8? No Steam.

I use an utterly stable standalone with WinXP + RTW and nothing else to test RS2 on. Am I going to have to make sure I somehow retain access to WinXP and similar machines for the next 20-40yrs?

In return, and for anyone who does have any problems with RTW+ and CTDs - do try running the game with your anti-virus (etc) disabled (obviously having disconnected from the internet first). It works for me.

Well for me it works without any problems. RS II works too. Running Windows 8 Pro X64.

Same here, i have some minor CTD's but nothing to constant.

I'll try that antivisrus thing and see if it CTD's again and come back with update.

Thank you, that's kind of you (both). I shall be a much happier bunny and not have to keep old PCs running in their dotage, when I am also in mine.

Same here, i have some minor ctd's but nothing to constant.

Do try without AV s/w running - and preferably not doing anything else at the same time either. Unless there is a real problem (Map issue, or some such) I haven't had a CTD in 15 months of playing - at 2 days out of 3.

Haven't tried it with Windows 8, but it runs flawlessly under windows 7.

My RTW works fine on Windows 8. The RTW Gold edition with Alexander that installs into the SEGA folder is also guaranteed to work as well.
