Default What do you think about tactical map?

I am a little concerned that the most efficient way to play multiplayer battles will be through tactical map (most of the time atleast). So instead viewing battle with debug camera where soldiers looks like ants we are going to look at tactical map where soldiers look like squares.
Which do you prefer ants or squares?

    Squares.

But in all seriousness, there's so much info you don't seem to be able to get from the tactical map (really ANY unit info, it seems) that I don't think it will be used except to get a quick overview of the situation, which is what it was designed for.

Now I can't stop anyone from using the debug camera, but I can say that if you're zoomed all the way out, it's impossible to micromanage.
If you rep me, leave your name. I'll look more kindly on your future transgressions.

We saw in Battle of Teutoburg Forest Walkthrough that you can command the units on tactical map. I know from earlier interviews that they were still debating whether to enable commanding of units or not from tactical map. Now that they decided that you can command units I wonder how effective it'll be.
Some of my friends already told me that they won't play with tactical map because they want to enjoy great graphics. I too prefer more close up view but if tactical map is better for controlling armies I know that in time I will switch to it.

It's designed to give a quick overview and issue large-scale move-orders. I don't think it will tell you anything else you need to know (like morale, troop numbers, what they're being attacked by, etc), which all seem rather important to me. Watching 2 squares "clash" is probably entertaining, if you're into Pong.

LOL. I hope you are right and tactical map is not that useful besides quick overview and issue large-scale move-orders. I want to play Total War not PONG!

The way I see it, the fact that you can conduct manoeuvers on the tactical map means you can actually spend more time "on the ground". It saves a lot of time zipping around the battlefield giving orders.

I like it a lot, even more so now that we can give commands from it. Kind of reminds of the old school RTS's where you could zoom out and command all your units at the same time.

I think the players who enjoy modding big armies into the game will love this feature. I absolutely love fighting with an army size of around 15,000 men but sometimes that can get a bit challenging and time consuming mid-battle, constantly having to pause and issue commands, and never being able to sit and observe the gory details for too long. I think this map will allow much greater control over large-scale armies and is a great addition.

Totally agree .If those two are true then it's a nice and useful addition to the game.

I prefer triangles like in rome1 instead of squares as representation of units when viewing tactical maps. It could help you to know where your units are facing especially for phalanx.
