    Default Battle kill rates

    On the topic of troop losses, what about the kill rate in battles? Something that really bugged me about RTW was that a pivotal battle on which the future of your empire may depend could be decided in under 2 minutes. It allowed no time for tactical moneuvering as the soldiers simply died by the hundreds in the first minutes.

    Another part of this that bugged me was that if you look at a lot of the battles from ancient times, armies would encounter one another, take losses and then retreat. Such as the Romans at Gergovia when they took over 700 casualties. But the bulk of the army was able to retreat. There was no function in RTW or any of the previous games for a fighting retreat. This meant that the battle would end with either army being completely annihilated which was not always the case.

    I hope CA intend to address this issue to casualties are taken more slowly and allow for longer, more tactical battles although I'm not sure if this problem was looked at in any of the mods made for RTW. I've heard something about the battles being longer and more tactically involving but havent had a chance to play and of the mods.

    There has been quite a few RTW mods that slowed down the battle process, which results in a longer battle. For instance, I can make a battle go from 2 minutes to 15 minutes with just a couple of number changes and the end results are the same as if the battle was 2 minutes (AI battle to AI battle). The nice thing about this is that as a human player, it allows you move your troops around and react to the AI.

    well, when i started playing against the AI i would pause it alot so i could take a look at everything. The more i play tho, i get accoustomed to the rate it goes at, that way i do better in multiplayer games when you can rarely pause. it would be nice, tho, if there was a 'one half' speed option. Something for CA to add in. :p

    Introducing something like Manouvers into the game really would be a gread add on. I mean one should be able to make something like a retreat to the camp while still fighting. In RTW it was hardly ever a good option to turn around and regroup. At least my units showed a great tendency to turn their backs on the enemy and then get routed. So a "strategical retreat" while fighting seems not to have been in the game until now..
