Help with Roma Surrectum.

Hey guys. First of all thanks for this awesome mod. Secondly, i am asking for your help. Ever since i installed windows 7 and then windows 8 rome total war (roma surrectum installed) started lagging like hell. I did turn off AA and vegetation is on low but when i zoom out i get 30-35 fps and when i zoom in 20-25. Its even worse when the AI has reinforcements (i get arround 12-14 fps). I can run Shogun 2, Napoleon and Empire on ultra settings with good fps. While i am aware that Rome's engine is old and its optimized for one core, i cant understand how other people with lower configurations than mine seem to get better fps. (running an intel core i5 2500k- 3.3 ghz, 8gb ram 1333, nvidia gtx570 , 1 tb western digital hdd and a samung 2233rz monitor with 120hz.)Note that i am not playing it in 3d, just using 120hz. Also, when i used windows xp i had no lag whatsoever. Anyways, thanks in advance.

That is why they have compatibility modes. You could also have a dual operator, where you can boot up as either Windows 8 or XP. But yeah, games slow down the older they get; my original Warcraft II doesn't even work on my computer anymore.

Part of the issue is that RTW was only built for single core computer whereas most modern games are optimised for multicore which means that they will probably run RTW slower than they do more modern and technically demanding games as it's not been optimised for the new processors either. What size screen resolution? You might try reducing that somewhat as it will reduce the load significantly.

Try the settings suggested here.

Specialy unit shaders, i readed on this forum that put it off can cause a big graphique probleme. Personnaly, it solved a probleme where my graphique controller was crashing. But my configuration is very different then your's and i use xp. Just make sure you have the suggested settings, if not, see if there is improvements.
