Into Lothian
Roughly 3000 men under King William III marched with all due haste towards the town of Jedburgh. There was little time to waste, the king himself rode at the head if the column alongside his Earl Marshal.

Re: Into Lothian
Along with his small retiniue Geoffrey de Montford followed his king and the army, loyal as he was towards De Vassy.

William chuckled.
all these lords and only a squire makes himself known. Are you ready, Montfort?

The man smiled back, laughing a little bit about his king's words.
"Always ready to serve you, your majesty", he answered polite, breathing the fresh air, "Ah, I really missed these rides and this excitement... I'm glad I've left my trading post at York for a noble task like this!"

William nodded, patting his sword.
Hopefully soon the earl marshal will make his presence known, along with the Knight of the Baron Avranches. We will be outfoxed by these scots unless they hurry.

Re: Into Lothian
"Then let us either hope that the marshal will hurry up or that our enemy has drunken too much aqua vitae* before the battle", Montford responded a little bit worried but still in a fine mood.
*whiskey, being known as aqua vitae, already existed since the 6th century in monasteries according to Wikipedia

The men of Avranches ride under their lord's banner towards the rear of the column, having gotten seperated from the main body to chase off some sheep raiders.

Re: Into Lothian
William denotes Lord Avranches banners; he hopes the earl marshal would arrive soon, otherwise William would have to use what he's got to fight the scots.

William set off, without the earl, into the Scottish lands of Lothian...

Re: Into Lothian
OOC: Sorry, sometimes it's very hard to remind myself of this RP just because of all the stuff going on in GoT now.
Geoffrey de Montfort and his small retiniue nevertheless followed their lord, though the Earl Marshall was still missing.
"Well, it looks like God really wants me to make me hope, that these bloody scots arrive drunken at the battlefield", he said then after a while laughing while also being a little bit worried, "How many men from the marshall will miss this battle and how many troops are we actually commanding, mylord?"
Though he was once a merchant, Geoffrey lost the overall view over the forces of his king, marching behind them with mixed feelings.
This isn't good, he thought secretly , I'm sure most of them trusted in the arrival of the Earl Marshall. And not all of them will fight loyal for their king as we do. That is always a shame with the Saxons!

Re: Into Lothian
Gaspard and his small company of men follow the Royal Army, remaining in their section of the camp or column, not bothering anyone, really.

Re: Into Lothian
William frowned as he rode.
2260 all in all. With the earl marshals men we would have at least hit 2760.
He pointed to a small town on the horizon.
That there is Jedburgh. Come, we ride.
He spurred his horse into a canter, and his knight followed.

Re: Into Lothian
As Jedburgh came into view, people could be seen at work in the fields, peddling their wares in the streets, and generally getting on with their lives. One man pointed towards the approaching force and raised a cry of alarm.
ooc: This one's in your hands now guys. I may be adding something now and then but mostly this is a chance for you to let your characters off the leash and let them run wild in the bountiful land of limitless RP. The people and environs of Jedburgh at at your mercy. You can RP a small town guard if you like but I wouldn't think they'd be more than a hundred men. Enjoy

William grinned, bellowed a warcry, and drew his sword - charging off into the mass of people with his knights.

Gaspard remains with his small force, keeping the infantry in a shieldwall while ordering his horsemen to move to the left of his infantry.

De Montfort followed his king immidiately into battle, riding at his side and holding his sword ready to crush the enemies forces in front of him.

William hissed as his sword caved in a scotsman's skull, before bringing it up again to strike down yet another terrified farmer. The man fumbled with his spear before being decapitated - William turned towards a group of scots who presented their rakes and pitchforks; spurring his horse onwards.

Re: Into Lothian
With screams and wails, the innocent populace fled before the murderous horde. Men lay dead in the fields, trampled by the hooves of the English horses as others sought the safety of their homes or just fled away from the ever encroaching army.
Those that hefted their makeshift polearms and long knives did so with heavy hearts and little hope for their own lives, but if it spared those of their women and children then perhaps they would not die in vain this day.

Re: Into Lothian
William roared in his bloodlust, caving a man's chest in with his blade; blood spurting all over his horse. Swearing aloud as his horse reared, William impaled another peasant onto his blade before riding again into the fray. The village was almost theirs, and now the Norman warriors worked their way through the village: setting homes ablaze and enjoying the fruits of their conquest.
