    Default Archers too strong, again

I've just watched new TW Teutobrg forest video
here's the link ,in case u can't play video http://youtu.be/fvXCxGKo2iE?t=9m8s
and I think arhcers are way overpowerd, unless those in video are some omg barbarian elite, what I highly doubt. Just look at 9:10 volleys they are killing Romans with 60 armour (green bar is full , so I guess that's the best infantry armor in game) like they are unarmored. Archers were too strong back in S2TW, however that was kind of understandable, but not acceptable, because samurais didn't equip shields ,but here in R2TW they should certainly be nerfed.
    What do you think community?

I think that they purposely bumped up the stats for the game preview to make it much faster.

    Which stats? Roman or German?

Also you talk about the S2 sams having no shield...the legionaires (sp?) were being hit, by massive volleys, whilst tired, in the unshielded flank (and i also think the stats were buffed for speed). Plus, as repeatedly pointed out, its PRE-ALPHA

That battle demo is scripted stats are modified like morale infact bersekers did insta-rout (impossible). I guess that archer's kill rate are greatly increased too.

it's pre alpha, not even balanced. And after the release if you think it's not balanced as you like, you open your pack file and switch to "archers throwing grass instead of arrows". be cool.

If you look at the preview you can see how the romans hold their shields upp and arrows just bounce of them en masse (some seem to get stuck aswell). So it seems shields do their job well. I'm pleased Was going to say some more but I realised Benzo said what I was going to say basically

PLEASE STOP saying It's Pre-Alpha. It's not! How can a game be pre-alpha a half year before the release and playable battles and campaign? They didnt show anything about the campaign but it's probably already almost finished.

The reason it is called pre-alpha is because when this particular footage/package was previewed, it was still the pre-alpha build of the game. The fact that the game is supposedly six months away doesn't mean anything if what they showed to the media was indeed the pre-alpha build.

To the OP, we barely know much about the game yet in terms of actual game play This was a scripted battle and like others have stated, it is bound to have kill rates and such boosted up to make a faster preview.

Because for this they used the pre-Alpha build, the current (probs alpha) build is CURRENTLY being tested and refined, so they couldn't use it. For a better example, you wouldn't see most mod teams releasing the build they're currently working on to the public, they release an already finished build whilst the new build (although nominally finished) is being compiled, debugged and tested.

By showing Pre Alpha footage? You know, they record it during Pre Alpha, and release is months later? Also, it's a historical battle, partially scripted. Which means they MAY have altered the unit stats for the Germans during this battle in favor of the player.

Because this footage is much older than the game's current state. I heard somewhere this was made months ago.

Of course the campaign map is completed. Will just said that the game is in lockdown phased which means they are only fixing errors and optimizing the game. But the game is basically complete if not perfect.

You do realize that was cross fire right? One group firing from the left and another from the right........ of course they're gonna be decimated.

    1) There are 3 archer units firing arrows

    2) all of them are from the flanks or the rear, so there is BOUND TO BE more damage. I'd be disappointed if the damage was less in this case!

    3) It is still "pre-alpha"

And, while I've never been shot with an arrow I'm sure it would pretty much ruin my day if it happened.

Now this is one of the few situations in which the "Pre Alpha" argument is valid Balancing will mainly be done in the Beta phase. And if the game isn't balanced at release, it will be later in the form of patches, so I don't think you should worry.

How exactly are we holding their hands if we point them on some obvious flaws? After all we are going to buy this game, we should have some impact on this game at least as customers.

Have you played the final version of the game? Because if you haven't, then this thread is pointless. You are not a customer who is pointing out a flaw in a finished product, you are a guy playing a developer, criticizing a pre-alpha feature in a demo that is a only a few months older than the siege of Carthage build. It is futile to judge footage from a game that is still under development on such a basic level. The entire battle was scripted anyway, every death was made to happen at a certain moment. The fights and volleys were mainly for show in the case of the demonstration. You don't really see combat speed, the lethality of arrows, or the effectiveness of the cavalry. Everything is made to play out in a certain way.
