    Default Qyburn *warning dumb theory(Spoilers?)

Is Qyburn just a disgraced ex-Maester hoping to be able to indulge in his dark arts for whom ever pays him the most or, does he have some

kind of ulterior motive? Maybe, he is an agent of the Great Other, whether he knows it or not. Necromancy is his thing and the Others are magical corpses...

Interesting theory my friend, after all the others need their own agents south of the wall. I think they are able to manipulate humans to archieve their goals.
And Qyburn is doing very bad things in his secret laboratory under the red keep.

correction, the others are no zombies, the wights are.

and there is no mention of any agents of them south of the wall, other than dead ones, neither of them manipulating anyone. magic is coming back, and qyburn is just a measter dabbling in forbidden parts, if he isnt a charlatan.

Well, we DO have an mysteriously large character walking about again... I think Qyburn, like the "firemagician" in Qarth, was a character who dabbled in the dark arts, and suddenly the things started working! To his great surprise I suspect...

OK, He is making wights.... The NIGHT KING was south of the wall, if i'm not mistaken? I do believe he is just some sick doctor messing with people bits but, since the magic

is back he may not know he is an agent of the Great Other. Would it not be awesome to have a wight plague start in kingslanding!

hahaha saying the Night King was south of the wall is like saying the battle between Mance and the Nights Watch was north of the wall. I know both are true but we are talking about a few yards instead of a few hundred miles. The Night King never left the area of the Wall whereas Qyburn is in Kings landing. Just a bit of a huge difference.

The Others are not the same with the Whitewalkers?

In the show there are no Others. They just refer to them as whitewalkers. But they are the same. The only difference is the politics of television.

But there's still the Great Other, which is like the Others' boss (according to the red priests at least)
Under the patronage of Finlander. Once patron to someone, no longer.
    Content's well good, innit.

Qyburn made Gregor a wight. It is known.

I always thought of the "Great Other" is simply the personified opposition to their Lord of Light, and not at all linked etymologically (if that is the right word) to "The Others" i.e. the Whitewalkers. I think the use of the name "Other" is simply a common manifestation of difference, opposition etc., and is a general term here being applied to two separate concepts. But I could be wrong; the Red Priests do talk of all forces of darkness, cold, death etc. being servants of the Great Other, so I guess it does work.

On topic of Qyburn, I don't think he is linked to the Whitewalkers as such. As said above, I think he is simply a chap who has got himself dabbling in Necromancy; he strives to achieve what no others have in questions of natural science, having been thrown out of the Citadel for using living humans for his dissections. He has ended up sticking with Cersei because she is letting him carry on his nefarious practices in safety. Whether he gets dismissed by the Tyrells now that Lannister power in King's Landing is waning is yet to be seen... I imagine the new High Septon might have a word or two to say about what he's up to if he finds out. And with the Tyrells obviously linked to the Citadel, prominent Maesters in Oldtown may well demand/warn that he be dismissed from his post because of his past. I wonder if he will get the chance to go any further than his introduction of Sir Strong....

He's 99% likely not connected to the Others. He's just working necromancy to his own uses. He may have a secondary agenda, I doubt he'd help the Lannisters out purely becauase he's such a generous person. However, I highly doubt that agenda is about anything more than power, gold, and the usual wants.

I see a resemblance to Qyburn and Rossart the last hand to the mad king. They both come to power during times of insanity by the ruler, and is pretty much the only person the ruler seems to trust.

Also i think it is fairly unlikely that Qyburn is connected to the Others.

he might cause a wight outbreak by accident...Maybe, he doesnt fully understand the magic behind necromancy... It would be a big jump in the overall conflict between the others and everyone else.

Quburn definitely has an agenda and some tricks up his sleeves. As for the others, I don't see them as highly intelligent creatures (not the wights, they are brain dead zombies). I'm not saying that they're stupid, but I don't think the others have the capabilities to have agents like Qyburn. They're like Neanderthals with highly advanced weaponry and magic.

They wouldn't have the highly advanced weaponry, if they were just Neanderthals, now, would they?

IIRC they don't show any real technology, even military one. It seems they mostly rely on magic (their "ice" swords are certainly magic), so they could after all be "neanderthals". They don't have cities as far as we know, they don't bother to communicate, we have nothing proving that they are more advanced than the rest of the world. If anything, they probably have a WORSE tech level... Anyway i think Qyburn has some sort of personal agenda, but he isn't a spy of the white walkers. He's just some kind of "dark Thoros": a guy naturally skilled in "magic" that has seen his "powers" significantly raise in those last years and decided to exploit it.

Robert Strong is certainly an undead abomination but he isn't a wight such as are raised by the white walkers. I'm sure they are not related, he's just another sign of magic's reawakening that has accompanied the birth of new dragons.

Perhaps they do have large cities in the lands north of the Wildings?

For all we know there is a vast empire there that would put the Valyrian Freehold to shame. Saying their swords and armour are magic and thus not advanced is a bit strange, the Valyrian weapions are the most advanced in Westeros yet are forged from magic. For all we know the swords of the Others are made from common materials cunningly fashinoed and strengthened with magic in much the same way. Hell we don't even know for sure that they are magical swords, they could just be so sharp because the Others are far more capable when it comes to working natural materials together to create a much stronger blade.
