When it comes to illustrations, no one beats Osprey series. Mind you, their books are otherwiese quite shallow and a bit overpriced.

I would also recommend the Smithsonian history of warfare series, with two books about Greek and Romans:

    http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Greeks...d_bxgy_b_img_y

Those books are very informative but still compact enough. And the pictures are gorgeous.

To define Osprey books shallow is a big fat exageration .... Consider that also CA admitted its using it ... Still its the main source for direct imaging artistic reconstructions.

Yes, CA admitted to using it but it's not their main source of information. I find that many armchair historians here on TWC rely on Osprey far more than CA. As Jack Lusted has shown us, CA uses a lot of archeological finds from museums as well.

And on which archaeological dig did they find the Spartan from the most recent trailer?

He looks awesome, true, but Spartans did not look that way in the game's timeframe.
In Rome II, the rule of cool will apply

I apreciate your respons ,but,i want one that would talk about the Romans,Macedonians,Carthaginians,Icenis, etc, etc and not only about one culture or people.

    I own this book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Warfare-Classi.../ref=pd_cp_b_1

warfare in the classical world.... Although not only focused on the Hellenistic period it covers from 1600 B.C. and A.D. 800. It covers tactics and talks through most major conflicts of that period. It has pictures shows the equipment of various different soldiers.

I found it a really good source of information and a good introduction to the history of that period.
