Default 2 questions: What do you do when a city general/governor "feels unappreciated"?

I want the guy there to run the city but how do I keep him happy? I know going out and beating the daylights out of some enemy solves it but what if there aren't any rebels nearby?

Second question: in the manual I read that I can move some traits (or is it retinue people) between generals by clicking and dragging. But I can only get one general's scroll up at one time. How do you do it?

Let him stew in his own self-importance.

You should just move him around a little every 3 turns and place him back in the settlement.

Yes, you can move retinues, but not all of them. To do it just merge 2 generals into a single stack and go to ones page, take the icon and drag it to the others icon.

Good. Thanks a lot for both answers Baltic.

Did not know you could do this...

Can you transfer ancillaries from a spy to a general, say, if both have triggers for it? Because I noticed something.

The black stallion ancillary (+25% movement points, gives forced march ability to armies) is transferable.

You can get a spy (or assassin) with a black stallion with 100% probability by creating a spy in a settlement with knights' stables or a racing track, or upgraded variants of either. (Presumably, a citadel with a library+ and knight's stables+ or a city with a brothel+ and racing track+).

So, can you create a spy with a black stallion, then give the black stallion to a general?

I don't think you can move ancillaries between unit types without modding the game. I got tired of having family members in their 60s getting good ancillaries, which would then be lost on death, so I modded the data file to make all ancillaries transferable. Things are much better now.

    Nothing. Plain and simple.

That's true if a rebel army appears nearby and you can send him off to battle. Otherwise if you do nothing, his loyalty will go down each time it can be checked. However it is a pain having to move your governors out of every city and back every turn.

I don't care about their loyalty, they can feel as dishonoured and unappreciated as they wish, no diplomat will ever come close to 'em, my assassins will always guard my border. Unless I do have business with that faction, they their entry is permitted.

I'm with Ęthelstan and Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert that it's probably not worth worrying about too much. The only thing I'd add is that when a settlement goes from large town to minor city, or from wooden castle to castle, that particular trigger for discontentgeneral goes away. Focus on growth (low taxes, farms, town hall) and get them to minor city status soon, or in the case of motte-and-baileys/wooden castles get them to castle status soon, and it won't be a problem for long.
