East Roman Empire keeps stabbing me in the back

I have played 3 BI campaigns so far as WRE on hard/very hard. Everytime I ask ERE for help with the Vandal faction, they turn me down. All factions will never ally with me. By 373 ERE always attacks me, when I seem to be in most need......

Any advice, suggestions?

build a huge army of carriage balistae and just own everyone.


but serioulsy tho, the west roman game is a tricky one. if you think about it as east rome does, it makes sense tho. to win, they need rome. and what better time to attack you then when you are hurting? I guess my advice would be to cede territories so you have less area to defend. that way you have less area to defend with the same territories. With any luck, your enemies will fight amongst themselves and become weaker so you can move in and retake your land. :p

i usually try to take out the germanic tribes asap.i take as many units from northeast gaul as i can and take out he allemani and franks. it will hurt you initially with rebellions and such, but in the long run you can get those settlements back. without the franks and allemani bothering you you can concentrate on africa or the ERE.

I started a new campaign at H/VH with some changes to descr. text. ERE gets less money: Sassinids get better starting armies and more money: Made goths, ostrogoths at war with ERE.

That should keep them busy for awhile.... :tooth:
