About the funny "Cannot recruit units" in the game
in the information of this link,i see that there are some units called "Cannot recruit units"
http://totalwar.honga.net/faction.php?v=m2tw&f=russia
for example, Russia has a unit called "Gulay Gorod".
they are quit funny, how can we find it in the game?
for France, Dismounted French Archers can be found in custom battle.
Swiss Pikemen can be found in Mercenary.
it seems that "Gulay Gorod" are already made by the game designer.
but how can we find "Gulay Gorod" in the game?
or can we change the game file in order to get it?
if yes, can anyone teach me? thanks!
(i am playing the version 1.5 without using any mod)

Re: About the funny "Cannot recruit units" in the game
The Gulay Gorod - and a few other units,,,
that were intended to be a "WAR WAGON" unit, but they were never finished in time.
As such, if you change the part in their EDU listing which says "no_custom" - you can play with them, and it will be a unit of Crossbowmen - armed with Steel Crossbow.
Hussities are the same as a unit of Pavise Xbow , without a pavise. --- I believe they all have very good stats though.
"Hussites" (failed wagon unit)
"English Mounted Longbowmen" (retinue longbowmen on horseback)
"Rocket Elephants". (rocket launcher on a elephant)
"Dismoutned Frankish Knights" - (a kind of spearman knight)

Re: About the funny "Cannot recruit units" in the game
You'll have to unpack the game first using the unpacker tool provided in Medieval II Total War\tools\unpacker. Inside are a few .bat files that can extract all files of M2tw. Beware that to extract all files you'll need a lot of disk space, as much as the game already has. However for what you want to do you need only a few text files, so to extract just the txt files (only ~10 mb) create a txt file, open with notepad, put this in:
unpacker.exe --source=..\..\packs\*.pack --destination=d:\packs\ --filter=*.txt
Then click save as, add .bat to it's name, then save in the same folder with the other .bat's. The red text is the destination where the text files will be extracted, you can change that to wherever you want. Run the bat and follow instructions of the tool.
The files you need is export_descr_buildings and export_descr_unit that should be extracted in a data folder. First is to make the units you want recruitable at buildings, 2nd is to find more un-implemented units and their name to add them in EDB.
It's rather simple to copy an existent recruit pool and replace the unit name and factions that can recruit it. If you need help to understand these files, here are guides to EDB and EDU:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt..._Buildings-txt
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ort_Descr_Unit
Oh and as PrestigeX said, indeed you'll have to remove the no_custom attribute of units that have it.
If you don't want/understand how to use the unpacker, you can install retrofit mod (which is the same as vanilla +a few kingdoms features) and you'll have the text files already in it.

Re: About the funny "Cannot recruit units" in the game
Here you go -- it is a Kingdoms mod, and is listed here in the "Hosted Mods" section (for kingdoms). This mod just takes the features / changes from Kingdoms expansion and implements them for the regular Grand Campaign.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forum...n-Retrofit-mod
There are 3 main mods for "Retrofit".
1 - Retrofit - barebones mod, more of a patch really...
2 - Retrofit + GUAM (thats the main 'mod' part of it, since this mod adds every unit from the kingdoms expansion to the normal factions , plus extra units like "sergeant swordsmen")
3 - Custom Campaign -- same idea as retrofit, but has a number of different campaign maps and themes...Also adds a few units, and does more A.I. / misc changes.
CC mod is probably the best one of the 3 , but GUAM is the most popular because of all its "Bells and Whistles" - in truth, I found that GUAM mod had really bad battle-handling, all the units feel too flimsy they all die so fast, and its too easy to get "Super units" right away.
If you don't have Kingdoms -- check the m2tw Hosted Mods (the ones that are just for regular m2tw).

Hussites are nasty, at least in SS... They definitely don't need a pavise.
