Do you think mods are important or are you only going to play official content?
Never really touched mods except for Paradox games since I couldn't get over the historical inaccuracy.

I'm more for official content, because I feel mods are to unpredictable and glitchy. Darthmod I think is the most stable, I've used it for RTW,M2TW,ETW, NTW and S2TW. Most of the time I just stick with vanilla though.
I think I'm the only player who's looking forward to MORE DLCs, since I get really excited whenever a new faction or additional units come out.
Also looking forward to extra campaigns or whatnot.
CA could milk this forever if they do this right and I'm more than willing to fork over the extra bucks.

I have to say modding is more important than official content I have spent about 10 times as much time on M2TW or RTW mods then I have on Empire, Shogun 2 or FOTs combined The quality of the mods are just too good compared to what CA has officially produced for M2TW or RTW. Even for Empire, Shogun, or FOTs, I have spent more time with mods then the vanilla games. They just add a little more to an already pretty good game.
I have always waited for mods to buy new TW games.
But now I spend more time on modding than playing, I must said I will care a lot about game moddability.

Hmm, I will usually play Vanilla until good mod compilations come out like DarthMod than I will use that when offline as most people online don't use it.
So far in the Total War series I've played vanilla and mods about an equal amount of time, will probably go with that in the future as well.
I usually stick to vanilla for a while but after you go up the ladder with the difficulty (like from H to VH) the incapacity of CA to throw a proper dangerous AI at you is too annoying to withstand so I need mods to make the game not destroy my game with stupid cheats and weird bonuses that handicap my gameplay. I good recent example is how I like to play vanilla S2 but with Radious diplomacy mod that reduces the effect of the RD and makes the diplomacy be an actual tool for the player in game and not the most dreaded enemy like in vanilla where everybody from Japan will want to kill you before you are anywhere near RD. Vanilla S2 diplomacy on H and VH difficulties makes you seem like the Mongols invading Japan rather than another clan disputing the frail Shogunate.
RTWRM - back to basics
I will attempt a total conversion of Rome 2 and if I can't, I'll just do it on FotS.
Certainly mods are important. Even something that does nothing more than unlock all of the nonplayable factions qualifies as a modification.
I don't think Rome II will have as much need for mods as, say, the original Rome (mods like EB improved the depth and replayability of that game tremendously), but it surely won't be without its issues, issues that mods might be able to solve or at least mitigate.
When I look at a Game like Skyrim, or when I take a look at the Warhammer or Third Age mod for Medieval 2, I say AYE to modding.
The more amazing tools you give them, the more amazing things you get in return.

And NO, my avatar is the coat of arms from the Teutonic Knightly Order because they're awesome.
I hope DarthVader comes back. Mods are very cool, but they have been lacking for the last few TW games. No really huge TC mods, at least none I have seen.
