Do you think Rome 2 will be better than Rome 1?

I think Rome 1 is the best game of Total War. Rome 1 and Rome 2 have fantasy units - wardogs, flaming pigs, screaming women (these units are fantasy because they never used as regular units in ancient armies; they used only in simple events). In Rome 1 we can delete these units without problems. I think that Rome 2 will be harder to modding. Rome 1 have the best mods and the biggest number of mods. Those mods were very historical, realistic and gameplay.
I think that Rome 2 won't be better than Rome 1 with mods. And what do you think?

By far Rome 2 will be better than Rome . Now lets see how mod will work . I hope to see the same quality from the TWC mods ,depending of what CA gives , that we had with Rome almost after a decade.

I think that Rome 2 will be better than Rome 1 in every aspect except moddabillity. Realism, gameplay, replayablitity, scope, varried gameplay elements, AI. All of this is bound to be superior than Rome 1.

The problem is that for me (and I expect many others) Rome 2 won't be percieved to be better. For me Rome was my first Total war which I played in a life phase where I had much more time and energy to play game and had less experience with games. Meanwhile my memory of Rome is by now heavily biased resulting from nostalgia and the influence of added mods and expansions.

It really is impossible for the human mind to objectively compare something they experienced 10 years earlier. Nostalgic feelings allways influence the memory of the experience removing sharp edges etc.

Would definitely agree with the nostalgia of old games such as these.. But I think it's been so long since I played a good pre-18th century Total War game set in Europe, some of that nostalgia will come back. The amount they've added to this game sounds like it will be so original that it will feel like an entirely new production.

In its time Rome 1 was the best game ever for me and I don't know if Rome 2 can beat this!
It is hard to compare a 15 year old car with a new one...

By far. This time we won't have ridiculous and useless units such as diplomats, we will have naval battles, more in-depth campaigns for multiple factions according to CA, and finally we will get a more accurate portrayal of history if recent games are anything to go by.

This. Sure, the older games like Rome and Med 2 are still very fun, but there's so much new stuff in the later titles.

I don't intend to delete these so called 'fantasy' units. They bring a lot of fun to the campaign - the purists can go about modding before they even start playing all they want.

But yes, I do think Rome 2 will surpass Rome 1, which is no mean feat.

Depends on how you define better. If they'd both be released at the same time, Rome 2 will probably be better. If you compare it to the impact Rome 1 had when it came out, the outcome will be much closer.

I like the older games, but Shogun 2+expansions are pretty much better in every way, and I expect Rome 2 to be better than Shogun 2, M2TW, and RTW in every way.

Say what you will for nostalgia, but there was some clunkiness to the older games. Diplomats and merchants were never really needed as map characters, and reinforcing depleted troops take so long. Why some more advanced castles and such cant just send replacements to the front line (As I imagine what is happening in Empire onwards) is strange to me. I like not having to have either a castle or a city, I like limited building slots, and with Rome 2, I hope they bring back the growing towns thing from Empire.

Don't get me wrong. Medieval 2 and RTW are great games, but they are still outdated by a bit.

If it isn't then Sega and CA will lose ££££££££££ and it could be the end to the total war series. I believe a lot rides on this being right as this could be the flagship game leading to a great many future projects. Screw this up and their supporters won't forget.
