Default Game freezes 'during' battle with Large armies. (PLEASE HELP)

    Hello,

It looks like when I enter large battles, typically with reinforements, the battle will play for a few min and then it freezes out of no where forcing me to Ctl+Alt+Delete. The slightly good news is, when I re-enter the battle it seems to play though, which makes this kinda weird. I have a beast of computer Sli-680's, 32 gigs of DDR 3 RAM and 4.0 GHz. Any idea? Should I NOT run Sli?

Do you get any error message, or it just freezes as you say? Is it a desktop PC? If it is, how often do you clean the dust out of it's case? It could be high temperature problem too.

Hmm... I've never had problems with the battle 'freezing' and not resuming except perhaps on a very rare occasion. You could try disabling SLI. Any graphics settings enabled that could be causing the game to act this way? Maybe try enabling/disabling vsync?

To a more extreme note, it could be a virus or extreme overheating like ElvenKind stated. Do other games/programs experience any problems?

What I find strange is that you said it usually only happens with reinforcements.. Maybe try a clean install of M2TW/TATW.

Woah First off. . Thank you guys for helping me figure this out, I always knew this community was great but I really am greatful for all the help in short timing : ) so thank you! 2nd of all I went into my Nivida and turn EVERYTHING from high quality to High Performance AND I turn Sli off. Also I turn clamp off and put on ' allow' setting and good news is I have had two big battles and no freezes : D. I doubt I have a virus, for everything else is running quite smooth. I play DayZ with everything high and also I play Mount&Blade Floris mod with ZERO issues. Perhaps my computer, not trying to brag, was too powerful with the Sli on FULL BLAST maybe? I feel its the Sli that truly caused things to screw up with my game.

P.S I did notice one thing about 3.2. When I start up Third Age it still says Third Age 3.0 before main menu comes in. Perhaps I shouldve replaced the files instead of just combining them? Once again thank you everyone for your help!

It should be written at the first loading screen TATW 3.2...

Have you installed both patches ( TATW 3.1 and 3.2 patch ) to the same location as TATW 3.0 ( default path is .../SEGA/Medieval 2 Total War ) ?

I think I just did 3.2. I thought the directions said 3.2 was standalone. Do I add and replace and NOT just add the files? I run steam btw

Steam requires different installation method. You have Windows Vista or even Windows 7, or 8 ( since you have a lot of RAM )

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...59#post8287059 Go to this link and apply step 3 from section HOW TO FIX IT for your main M2TW folder ( steam/.../medieval 2 total war) .

After that, Uninstall and remove any Third_Age_3 files from your steam.../medieval 2 total war folder. Go here and use one of steam installation methods ( Kingdoms Launcher App is very good ). Be sure to install all four TATW parts, TATW 3.0 part 1 and part 2, patches TATW 3.1 and 3.2.

Thank you for your help! Ok I understand how to disable the stuff on windows and I know how to use the steam setup I rename the Thirdage folder to America's but I'm having issues understanding how to combine Third Age 3.0 with the patchs 3.1 and 3.2 I'm confused on how to Appropriately combine them. Don't I just combine 3.1 into the Third Age Folder and click on replace files with the original stuff and do the same with 3.2? Sorry I'm just kinda confused with that part and I know how crucial it can be to make sure the files are correctly in order. Again thanks for your help!

P.S I think the SLI thing was the issue with the battle map freezes, for I had 6 'huge' battles and NO freezes so far : )

If you already have installed 3.0, and then renamed your Third_Age_3 folder to Americas, then install both patches to DESKTOP (use the ˝......˝ window when asked where to install files, just point both patches to DESKTOP, don`t make any folder ) After installing both patches to your DESKTOP, find a folder named ˝mods˝ on your DESKTOP, open it and inside there should be Third_Age_3 folder. Open it, and manually copy paste files to your RENAMED Americas folder where your TATW 3.0 is installed.

For example copy the content of the "text" folder from this newly created "Third_Age_3" folder where you installed both patches, and paste it into the "text" folder of your "americas" folder. Overwrite if asked.

Note : The "models_missile" folder has to be copied to the normal ".../Medieval II Total War/data" folder!

At the end , you can delete the mods folder from your DESKTOP ( the folder where you installed both patches ).

Ok, so the model missles do NOT go into my America's(Thirdage) folder? And I have to copy and replace EVERY file from patch and over write the ones in my 3.0? Wouldn't that take a long time or am I just going folder by folder rather then file by file? Thanks again for your help! This is a big learning Process.

Well, I don`t have steam version of M2TW, but it should work if you copy\paste files into your America's(Thirdage) folder, and overwrite everything when asked.

And I forgot to mention, when you install TATW 3.1 patch and point it to install to your DESKTOP, it makes a data folder on your desktop, and inside is this models_missile folder which goes to your steam\...\ Medieval 2 TW\ data folder :

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

And when you install TATW 3.2 patch to your DESKTOP, it creates a mods folder on your desktop, open this mods folder and copy paste content of Third_Age_3 folder to your steam\...\ Medieval 2 TW\ mods\ America`s ( Third Age) folder ( overwrite everything when asked ):

Well good news, I've copied and past 3.1 and 3.2 into my 'Americans folder' and when I started the game up it said 3.2 in the bottom right corner : D I might of copy and pasted only 'ONE' file Inappropriately but I think I did it all correct. I'm playing as the 'High Elves' right now with zero issues 'so far'. Lol I'm hoping Elrond doesn't die this time of old age at 200 turns! Thank you for the help! Should I go back to SLi and try it again or just stick with one card running? It seemed to work better with ZERO freezes when I just had one running!

Stick with the one card if it works, switch to SLI when you want to play other games which don`t have problems with it.

Enjoy Middle-Earth.. High Elves, my favourite faction

And, for battle crashes disable daylight savings, go to Control Panel, Clock, Date and Time, Change the time zone, Change time zone, uncheck `Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Savings time`.
