Default 2 Expansion packs? - a small as DLC, a big as Box (like Shogun 2)

I think that Rome 2 will heve 2 expansion packs. The first one will be small DLC Pack (like Peninsular Campaign, Warpath and of course - Rise of the Samurai). Second probably will be Boxed expansion pack like Barbarian Invasion and Fall of the Samurai.
    I have a great reason:

    - Rise of the Samurai (before STW2) -> Rise of the Roman Republic (before RTW2)
    - Fall of the Samurai (after STW2) - > Fall of the Roman Empire (after RTW2).

It will be great. Rise of the Roman Republic will be about Roman fights in Italy with Samnites, Etruscans. Roman will have hoplites and king. Very interesting period.

What do you think about this idea?

The new faction is standard DLC.
    Expansion pack = new campaign,
example: Rome 1 (game), Barbarian Invasion (boxed expansion pack)
Medieval 2 (game), Kingdoms (boxed expansion pack)
Empire (game), Warpath (DLC expansion pack), but Elite units of the West (standard DLC)
Shogun 2 (game), FotS (boxed expansion pack), RotS (DLC expansion Pack), Otomo faction pack (standard DLC).

Not really fond of the idea. Even though this worked well for Shogun 2 and was a nice idea back then, I'd rather see something new this time. There are more interesting and more diverse events in the antiquity anyway. For example the conquests of emperor Trajanus, conquest of Gaul by Caesar, or any of the numerous Roman civil wars, most notably the war between Marcus Antonius and Gaius Octavianus. Either way, I would love an expansion set on the Principate era.

CA should at least rule out the fall of the Roman Empire, since we had that last time as well.

Rise of the roman republic is not my cup of tea. I'd rather have a smaller expansion focussing on the greek-persian conflicts where you either play as a greek city / macedonia or the king of the persians and your purpose is to pull off an alexander as the greeks or as the persian king enforce a more centralized government over your vassals, satrapies and unruly family members and finally succesfully invade greece.

Next to that barbarian invasion 2 is a must, huns, goths, byzantium, what more do you need?

    Exactly my thoughts.

Conquest of Gaul - it will be in game for sure, because will be battle of Teutoburg Forrest what was later than Ceasar.
Conquest of Trajan isn't possible because Roman faction will be too large to be playable (in Barbarian Invasion are two faction of Roman Empire).

What I meant is that these campaigns could be described in greater detail. Warpath campaign in Empire and Peninsular Campaign in NTW also took place on the timelines of the vanilla games, but re-enacted a certain battle/conflict in a more in-depth fashion.

Trajanus's campaign against Dacia could happen on a separate, more zoomed in and more detailed campaign map. It doesn't have to include the rest of the Roman Empire that was more or less irrelevant considering the war took place in Dacia. The major powers of that expansion would be the Romans and the Kingdom of Dacia. The same applies to the conquest of Gaul.

By the way, your previous profile picture was somewhat better.

I hope for two expansions, but the period leading up to the Roman Empire doesn't really interest me. A Barbarian Invasion-type expansion is definitely required, though.

Doesn't that mean that the period covered by the game fails to interest you?

I would rather continue the existing game timeframe towards the zenith of the Empire.

Also I find the various civil wars are of interest as more detailed expansions.

This game is more varius so possible are 3 expansions: DLC Rise of the Roman Republic, DLC Civil War, Alexander etc. and Boxed Fall of The Roman Empire / BI 2.

STW2 have only one culture but have 2 expansion pack. Rome 2 is more variety than Shogun - cultures, factions, units so possible are more expansions.

All STW2 factions are similar. In Rome Britons are 100% different than Parthians or Macedonians.

    I agree completely.

If there is a 'Rise of the Roman Republic' DLC, we could see a historic battle depicting the defeat of the Romans at the hands of Brennus. In the campaign, I think it would be interesting to see the Roman army starting out as a phalanx type army of spearmen. Then there would be a reforms event/upgrade in which the spear armed Hastati and Principes would transform/be replaced by the sword and pilum armed Hastati and Principes that we are all familiar with.

The civil wars would make another good DLC/Expansion but a 'Fall of the Roman Empire' expansion is more important marketing wise IMO. The Huns, the Goths, the Vandals etc. are too well known to ignore.

Barbarian Invasion was a fantastic expansion, maybe the best expansion for any total war game ever made. They must surely remake it for Rome II. As for the other DLC, there's 300 years between the end of Rome II and the start Barbarian Invasion II to cover, plenty of options there.

Expansion will be there no doubt, but what will it be about, that's the question. Perhaps a rehash of RTW Alexander?

i do hope we see an expansion which is shifting the eye somewhat, a rise of the huns would be awesome(kind of like BARB) likewise a polis campaign in greece would be cool.

I would love a Roman kingdom-early republic expansion.

I just pray that whatever expansions they add to the game, they add to the base game itself.

i.e. What RotS and FotS did for Shogun 2: you could play as any faction in MP or Custom Battles. I love having more options for multiplayer and custom battles :3

Wholeheartedly Agree with the OP's general gist.

I'm ALL for having more DLC for Rome 2. Actually, I'd love to have Rise of Rome or Early Roman era. I would love to be Etruscans and change history, muahaha.

I just think that before the MANDATORY Fall of Rome / Barbarian Invasions 2 Expansion DLC... there should be at least a couple DLCs, not just one.

As others have pointed out, there is 300 years of history between Rise of WESTERN Rome and its eventual fall. Also, even after Fall of Rome / Barbarian Invasions DLC, I'd really like to see an AFTER epilogue focusing on Eastern Roman Empire, ie Byzantine Empire, namely the reconquest by Belisarius, but without going too far into medieval times.

Depending on how far east the vanilla campaign goes, I would want an expansion out there. Maybe another Alexander expansion although I guess people might say it is boring to do that again...
