How often do you guy's really use militia units? Obviously it's not ideal, and they are at a clear disadvantage against Line Infantry, but who uses them/how? For factions like Austria and Prussia they are really a necessary evil, with Napoleon advancing so quick. I've not really used them extensively, but Prussia and England's militias are probably a bit better than Austria's, with Russia coming in last.

I imagine like 2-4 units of them spread through a line of infantry wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, especially when they start to get more and more experience. Thoughts/suggestions are cool too, I suppose.

Militia units are cheap and give a garrison bonus. So I usually built a few to keep order in the conquered cities, and also to have a minimum force in every port to avoid ennemy raids. But seldom in the front line.

For both ETW and NTW I only use militias to garrison cities and ports, except on few earlier starting battles.

I only use them as garrisons. They rarely see any combat unless an army somehow sneaks past my lines or they can't prevent a rebellion.

Likewise Militia are only suitable for garrison duty. The main disadvantage in battle is their inability to form square which makes them vulnerable to cavalry attack. Occasionally they get drawn into a battle as reinforcements if they are garrisoned nearby, but then i usually use them as a second line reserve, or post them behind the artillery as a last ditch defence to allow me to extract the gunners if the battery gets overrun.
