    Default Few questions overall

So far ive been enoying medieval 2 alot, started playing for the first time yesterday, heres a few questions I got so far.

    1. Is diplomacy useless? Ive made trade with France, gifted them map information aswell as some money and got the relationship between us high, yet then they suddenly declare war on me.
    2. AI is quite stupid and weird sometimes or is it just me? After France declared war on me, they had no troops NEAR me, I took 3 territories from them ( the cities were poorly defended ), then found the bulk of their army was north, completely away from me and the "war"..
    3. I find it kind of weird that small countries with almost no army ( well poor army ) keeps declaring war on factions that are in the top 5 in the military rankings.

So are these problems all general knowledge? Do some mods fix them?

diplomacy is not useless. It is good if you use it right. For example as venice you can buy bologna early of the HRE and turn yourself into the major faction in italy, or the same with milan.

The ai is stupid but capitalise on it, i find that they attack with weaker armies on very hard which is supposed to be hard, i end up slaughtering their weak armies and get very bored.

Factions do not look at rankings. As far as i can tell it is the same pattern most times and they look at frontiers.

Rankings mean nothing, I found in my russian migration campaign i was sixth overall despite dominating the surrounding lands.

    1. In vanilla, yes, only alliances that the AI wont break so easily will be marrige ones.

    2. Yes, the AI is unfortuneatly retarded.

    3. If one nation gets too big there is a mechanism that makes everyone else DOW on it to make further expansion harder, same applies to you too.

So are these problems all general knowledge? Do some mods fix them?
Yes they are, most mods out there will do some heavy scripting to make the AI best it could be(still far from smart, trough much better).

These all mods will work if you have the Kingdoms expansion, if you dont have it, than the original medieval 2 mods are there too, but they are mostly abandoned, and not as good the these ones.

Third age total war (TATW for short) - full conversion mod, that brings you to the lands of LOTR, really well done and polished, has custom sttlements, events, great submods, etc, etc.

Stainless steel (SS) - Stays true to the vanilla map and expands it slightly eastward, has new factions, better AI, new skins and loads of other small things. It is however confusing to install for many and has some almost nessecarry fixes you should apply. Lots of submods.

Broken Crescent (BC) - Moves the map eastward, It goes from Bosporus to India in the east and Russian steppes in the north, it is very historically accurate too but not a huge choice in submods.

All three of these mods have the G5 RBAI available to be installed(2 of them come with it already installed IIRC, but its best to update it, as the older vesrions have CTD issues) which makes the battle AI much more smarter, they all have their strat map AI improvements as well which make allainces more reliable, etc etc.

Other good mods are: Chivalry II, Call of warhammer, Deus Lo Vult. There are lots more of them: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forum...-Modifications

    Good advice thanks.

One more thing, do you happen to know if any mod makes the setting a different age, I prefer ancient/classical most of the time, I know Europa Barbarorum 2 does but its not out yet and won't be for a while.

For a point of reference in my current campaign as Spain on N/H I have had an alliance with Portugal for 80 turns. I think the key was that I gave them some money early and then since Lisbond was separated from the rest of their countries I gave them military access. That seems to have kept them very pleased. I have also been maintaining an alliance with the HRE and England for almost as long. Maybe my standing with the Pope is helping? Or it could be everyone's hatred of France and Milan...

INVASIO BARBARORVM II and Paeninsula Italica are the only mods with the Roman Empire that I can think of. Invasio Barbarorum focusses on the fall of the Western Roman Empire and is split in several small campaigns I believe and Paeninsula Italica is still in beta.

If you want an experience that is as similar to the original game as possible but has the bugs fixed and includes all the Kingdoms features, try the Retrofit mod. There is an ancient Greek mod but it is banned from being mentioned here because the person who created it copied other modders' work without their permission.

    What does G5RBAI stand for?
