Regular CTDs for Spying and Battles

I get regular CTDs when I try to enter a battle or when I send a spy on a mission (game crashes before the movie pops up). It doesn't happen every single time I try to enter a battle of spy on someone, but it happens very regularly. I get the message "an unexpected error has occurred blah blah". Occasionally when trying to enter battles I also get the fatal graphics error message.

I always run Stainless Steel as an administrator and I've turned the advisor off. I've also lowered my graphics settings, to no avail.

I'm running SS 6.4 on Kingdoms 1.5, Windows 7. Any ideas?

Please checkout Sub Mods, d/l install RBAI by G5, should fix the unstability, when you install Run As Admin

I've just read up on RBAI and actually installed it; the improved AI sounds good. However, the battle CTD fix appears to be a rather heavy handed fix that breaks campaign gameplay, and as such is intended only for specific battles that consistently CTD so it can be turned off immediately afterwards.


My problem is that battles can randomly and rather unpredictably CTD on loading. I might get a CTD the first time I try to start a battle, but I load up the game again and it works perfectly fine the second time round.


Also, any ideas on the CTDs when a spy mission cutscene attempts to load? Same deal as the battle CTDs with these, sometimes they cause a crash and sometimes they work no problem. I haven't actually tried any assassination missions yet in SS so I don't know if it occurs with those too.




As a side note, I'm getting a crapload of '500 - internal server errors' when I browse the TWC forums. Is it just me?

The purpose of the latest RBAI is to fix CTD on re-inforcement armies entering battle, so you do need it.

Please can you try turning of the Anti Aliasing in the MTW Game Options.

As for this forum, same here with that error, getting very very frustrating

I have the battle AI installed, but the emergency battle CTD fix says it should be uninstalled immediately after completing the specific battle that is causing problems. As such, I do not have that option ticked in SS Setup.

Anti aliasing was already off, I turned down anisotropic filtering to 2x and I even lowered all the rest of the graphical settings. It's not my GPU that is giving me troubles.

I will play through my campaign a bit more with RBAI now installed and see how I go. Thanks for your help so far.

No luck

I still get CTDs occasionally when spying and I seem to be getting them even more frequently during the AI turns now!
Haven't had any battles to fight recently so no news on that front.

Sadly that is more and more looking like a bad install, your best bet is a re-install, UAC Disabled and Run as Admin. Make sure you delete SS, clean up and defrag

I did a full reinstall of Medieval 2, SS 6.4 and RBAI as an admin and with UAC off. Still getting pretty regular yet unpredictable CTDs on my old campaign. Haven't tried a new campaign yet.
