This is the submission/nomination thread for MAARC XLV.

Eligibility

- The nominated AAR must have been updated at least twice in April.
- The winner of the previous competition cannot compete in this current MAARC
- Only one AAR per person
- Nomination deadline: the last day of the month
- The competition is open for a month, followed by a one week, multi-poll vote.
- If there are less than 5 nominations, the competition is extended for another month.
- Usually authors nominate their own work. If you would like to nominate somebody else's work, please ask for the author's approval first (or encourage the author to nominate the AAR)!]

Advertisement Rules

Advertising is allowed in the official advertising board and in AAR threads. Any other kind of direct advertising to advocate nominees is prohibited. Those who breach this rule shall be disqualified for 3 months.

Asking for votes is not allowed and will result in an immediate disqualification and ban of 3 months from the Competition forums.

The competition manager will take whatever steps necessary to insure the integrity of the competition.

The year is 1180. The Chrysanthemum Throne has fallen under the sway of the Taira clan as storm clouds gather over Kyoto. Emperor Takakura’s time is coming to an end and he is fast approaching the age where he must retire into cloistered rule. The powerful warlord families of the Taira and Minamoto bicker over who should reign in his stead – will it be a boy born of Heike or a boy born of Genji? As a new breed of warriors named samurai rise to claim dominance over the provinces, and as violent excursions by Buddhist monks become more and more frequent, the stage is set for all-out war between the Taira and Minamoto. Who will force their will upon the new emperor and secure themselves as the first ever shogunate?

Far detached from the unfurling events in Kyoto, in the vast northern wasteland of Tohoku, another danger stirs. Humiliated, exiled, broken and crushed, the Fujiwara clan – who once claimed unrivalled regency over the entire land – are but a shadow of their former selves. However, one young Fujiwara son has raised his banner. After decades of schism, the Fujiwara have been reunited and they now flock to his cause; ready to take back what is rightfully theirs. 1545. This is Sengoku Jidai, the age of the country at war. For two hundred yeas, the Ashikaga shoguns ruled from Kyoto, and great splendour and power were theirs, but now the shogunate grows weak. The time has come for a new warlord to become shogun. The only possible outcome is TOTAL WAR!

Yuki is an ordinary peasant. He lives in a world accustomed to nothing but endless war. He does not at first think the army is a good idea but after becoming fixated with the yumi, he joins the army as a yumi ashigaru. He will experience good times, bad times, pain, joy, happiness, sorrow as he tries to live in a harsh and changing world. But where will he end up. Will he end up dead like many of his comrade. Or will he rise above the rest and become Shogun himself? Read on to find out here.

Julian, The Savior Of Rome?

This is the story of a man. A man who died at the edge of the world, alone with his dream. A man whose journey began long, long ago... and whose destiny it was to rule the Roman world and usher a torn and failing empire into a new era of glory and prosperity. Cruel as the fates are however, with its twists and turns, this never came to pass. Remembered mostly for his obstinate and forlorn battle against the rising religion of Christianity, our hero passed away in a dusty plain in the Mesopotamian desert, after only two years in power, at the young age of 31, leading one of the biggest Roman armies ever to march into Sassanian lands. It did not have to be this way, however. From the dawn of time, ever since men began to dream and wonder, we have been haunted by those two most terrible words... what if?

That man's name was Flavius Claudius Julianus. And this is his story.
