I saw Accepted a few hours ago, and it's the most hilarious film I've seen in a while. It made me feel like an undergrad again. I think this will fit into the essential college movie collection, with the likes of Animal House and Van Wilder.
College movies are like stoner flicks, in that their popularity lies in main characters who just want to have a good time. Bluto, Otter, and Flounder were most at home while hosting a toga party. They didn't care about America's lofty position or mission in the world (which has been constantly extolled in every single war movie since 9/11), nor did they care about pursuing some chick they met in an airport 10 years before (I hate chick flicks, can't you tell?). Sure, they were slackers who wanted nothing more than to have fun, but that simplicity made them even more endearing.
The residents of Animal House were always vibrant and full of verve, and never became these dreary stiffs that we see every day. I refuse to wear neckties, and always dress like I'm ready to go to a game of some sort (I have soccer, baseball, and football jerseys), even when I'm teaching a section. On the off chance that I have to wear a tie to an interview, I make sure to wear sneakers so it evens out. And yes, I always get called in for second interviews and that's because my work is quality.
So what are your favorite college films, and why?
