I'm just back from St. Petersburg and no wonder of achitecture impressed me more than the St. Petersburg mosque

This picture doesn't do it justice, but you get the basic idea.
Having recently undergone restoration (which is almost over, from what I've seen) it has a beautiful blue dome and shining mozaic minarettes.
Considering the catholic churches there are unpopular and decrepit and the orthodox ones have not been maintained by the Soviet Union (and aren't now), I'd have to say this building is one of the highlights of the city.

This picture isn't the best, but the best Mosque I have seen is the Masjid Nabawi(besides for the Kaaba of course):

I don't think that pic show's it's beautiful green dome.

    Yeah, it does.
That church is old and faded due to a lack of maintenance in the communist era.
    And the location is worse.
Kazansky Cathedral looks fairly nice, but since it was the Museum of Religion and Atheism in the Soviet era, it didn't get maintained much.

They're doing some restoration work, but time has not been kind to that place.
The Catherdral of Vasily Blzhenny in Moscow does look great, though.

But I still preffer the old style white, blue domed churches.
