    Default With Unlocking All Factions

I've got RTW Gold and have scoured the web looking for how to unlock all factions. They all say go into 'data' and do it from there. However, I have two files, data1 and data2, and my computer isn't allowing me to open them. Help!

EDIT: I've got into it the proper way and can't save the descr_stat, more help needed!

    Is the file set read-only?
Right-click the file and click Properties.

It isn't read only. When I edit it and try to save it it says 'do you want to overwrite' then, once I'm pressed yes it says Access Denied.

A lot depends on where you installed the game. If you installed to either of the 'program files' folders Windows won't let you write data back to them as Windows treates these as 'protected'. Such updates should be in the 'appdata' or 'virtual store'. The path will be something like c:\Users\"user account"\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War'.

The other thing could be is that your Windows account does not have the right permissions to write to the folder anyway (if it's not the program files folder).

Thank you, mine's in one of the program files, so I guess that's me screwed. Thank you very much for your help.

No - you should be able to put the file into the 'virtual store' and it will be picked up from there.

Thank you, I managed to find another way, logging on as admin and giving myself permission to edit the file, not quite sure how but it worked. Thank you very much

Why don't you have admin rights on your userid anyway?

The only way you don't want that is if you share the PC with other people and they don't want you to make changes.
