Under What Conditions Do Factions Join You?
I was pleasantly surprised in-game when I got a message saying the Zuna were willing and eager to join my faction. Naturally I said yes as quickly as I possibly could. There seems to be some kind of mechanic that means factions will join you willingly, which is a nice and somewhat more organic method of expansion than sending your armies everywhere whether the people you attacked deserved it or not.
I was allied with them and I had recently taken a lot of land (Gohma attacked and I curb-stomped them as the Hylians). What factors make a faction likely to join you, and what factions can it happen with? I'm presuming it's only NPC factions.

You are correct in that it is only npc races, which are the Zuna, Tokay, Subrosians, Huskus, and Horon. They will join you if allied with you for only one turn, and computer players don`t absorb npcs if you are wondering.

It certainly adds another element of usefulness to diplomats.
